Some people scoff at the idea of comparing mothers to CEOs. But they're misguided. Just think for a second about what a CEO does for a living.
According to our job descriptions, a CEO “plans and directs all aspects of an organization's policies, objectives, and initiatives.” The moms in our survey are the social directors, policymakers, community organizers, financial directors and even breadwinners for their families. They provide leadership and set the course, just like the leaders of Fortune 500 companies. Our CEO job description also states: “Responsible for the short- and long-term profitability and growth of the company.” Substitute the word “children” for “company” and you have an apt description of what mothers do every day.
Except there are no diapers, sippy cups or angst-ridden teenagers to deal with when you’re a CEO at the office. Usually.
