The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Policy Officer in the Strategic Program Office (SPO). The SPO is part of the Employment and Workforce Group in DEWR. We work on enterprise-wide strategy and transformation, future systems development and funding opportunities. We also help with new policy proposals and business case development, as well as program and project management. The SPO helps deliver key projects while making DEWR's digital service offer better and more effective.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the APS 6 Policy Officer is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day workload of the team, including contributing to the development of new policy proposals (NPPs), environmental scanning and supporting future system development and funding opportunities.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and contribute to team and stakeholder meetings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • An ability to critically analyse information, draw out key issues and clearly communicate risks and benefits.
  • Strong time management, prioritisation, and organisational skills, including taking the initiative to progress work when required
  • Experience contributing to the development or implementation of initiatives, strategies or methodologies relating to technical, policy, IT, operational or service-oriented matters.

The Opportunity

This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 12 months.
