The technical training team's scope includes supporting new starter onboarding and developing people’s technical capability. Training requirements are defined by standardised learning pathway frameworks that incorporate the different levels of experience for new ongoing development within each workstream.

You’ll be part of a friendly team, supported by your leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the West Angelas Mining Operation.

Reporting to the Supervisor Training, the successful candidate will:

• Train and assess frontline and new to mining workforce through one-on-one, infield, classroom, or group delivery.
• Collaborate with on-job-trainers (OJTs) to facilitate in-field training in alignment with the weekly training schedule.
• Support Capability Development Supervisor with preparation and delivery of reports to identify training opportunities.
• Engage with frontline leadership to create detailed training plans and execution strategies.
• Support the onboarding process for new starters and create a positive and engaging experience for new Rio Tinto employees.

• Exceptional Communication Skills: Exhibit excellent communication skills to effectively influence, engage, and build rapport with key stakeholders.
• Mining Experience: Have hands-on experience in the Mining in Fixed Plant, MEM, or Drill & Blast Operations
• Drill & Blast Experience: Shotfirer, MPU, Epiroc D65 Mk I & II, CAT MD6420 & CAT MD6310.
• Effective Time Management: Possess strong time management skills, the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities, and a demonstrated capacity to support diverse groups in achieving desired outcomes.

Komatsu AHS Frontrunner qualifications

• Training Qualifications: possessing an On Job Trainer qualification or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is necessary.

Where you’ll be working

This position will be offered on a lifestyle friendly FIFO roster, 8 days on, 6 days off located 110km west of Newman, West Angelas operates on a fly in fly out roster from Perth, Broome and Busselton. 

West Angelas is a pioneer in autonomous technologies – we were the first site to trial autonomous haul trucks and incorporate autonomous drilling into our operations in 2008, and we continue to have one of the largest mining fleets in the Pilbara. 

Our high grade, low phosphorous Marra Mamba orebody is an integral part of the Pilbara Blend, contributing both lump and fines products on around four trains each day. At the West Angelas hub there are state-of-the-art power generation and refueling facilities. These facilities supply power and diesel fuel to the East Pilbara mine sites. 

The future is bright at West Angelas with ongoing growth projects at Deposits C and D, as well as additional deposits under study providing enormous opportunities for personal development and career growth.
