The Heath & Safety Manager will offer expert knowledge and skills to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture for the company. Responsible for the Health and Safety program to reduce occupational illnesses and injuries.

Key Responsibilities

HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGER

  • Develop and implement policies, practices and procedures that are in place and are adhered to.
  • Develop job hazard analysis and project safety plans.

Audits:

  • Participate in Workers Compensation Board Ontario (WSIB), Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR)
  • Internal and External Audits

Training:

  • Provide training (WHMIS, 3-point contact, Slip, trip & fall, etc).
  • Organize and schedule 3rd party training.
  • Provide Safety Talks to employees.
  • New hire orientation sessions and any additional special employee re-training.
  • Assess and conduct training requirements.
  • Conduct annual plant/field inspections, write report on findings for all locations (yards/pits).

Meetings:

  • Schedule and conduct monthly Health & Safety meetings.
  • Organize and attend JH&S Committee Meetings, prepare agendas, minute recommendations and coordinate follow-up activities.

Ministry

  • MOL; eg: escort field visits, respond, monitor and follow up to orders issued.
  • Respond in writing to any/all Ministry orders (including training/re-training).
  • Ensure the company is compliant with all government bodies.
  • Conduct, report and follow up on incident/accident reporting and investigations.
  • Oversee the Quality Control on any/all products when required.
  • Conduct and follow-up with Return-to-Work Programs with WSIB.
  • Responsible for all correspondence (Employees, WSIB) regarding any claims.
  • Participate in working with suppliers and contractors when necessary.
  • Develop corrective actions for non-compliance.
  • Lead and support the organization in any emergency-planning activities with occupational health and safety implications.
  • Review fleet status with Logistics Manager/Fleet Coordinator.

Working Hours:

  • Normal business hours are Monday to Friday – 8:00 am to 6:00pm.
  • Additional hours are mandatory for Audits, Ministry visits, or emergencies if necessary.

Compentencies:

  • Degree in Occupational Health & Safety (Mandatory)
  • 3-5 years Health & Safety experience.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) designation an asset.
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR) an asset.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and other related legislation (i.e. Workers Compensation Board (WSIB), Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development).
  • Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Must have a Valid Class G Driver's License.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and record keeping skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
