Summary
The Data Entry Clerk, known as Customs Analyst, is responsible for a wide variety of clerical and technical duties to ensure the timely and accurate processing of customs releases for various types of shipments: truck, air, rail, courier and ocean. This includes but is NOT limited to data entry, researching, working with various trade chain partners (clients, carriers, vendors, customs, and other Cole branches) to affect release and final accounting of customs entries.
Job Duties
- Data entry and transposing of invoice information for customs clearance purposes
- Review all pertinent documentation to ensure all data elements are present in order to submit entry to Canada Border Services Agency.
- Research, prepare and execute any additional documents to satisfy Participating Government Agencies requirements
- Monitoring and tracking shipment status frequently to provide information to clients, carriers, etc.
- Locate missing documentation through contact with carriers, freight forwarders, clients and/or internal business partners
- Troubleshooting rejects on customs entries, for EDI and CADEX
- Adhering to timelines such as customs for CADEX confirming and carriers for storage, etc. Accurate billing/invoicing of entries
- Coordinate steamship release, delivery instructions and collect charges where required
- Other duties as assigned by manager
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
- Strong communication skills; must be able read, write and speak English fluently
- 1-2 years of direct work experience in a customs broker data entry environment is beneficial, not mandatory, as data entry is acceptable
- Minimum typing skills of 40 words per minute with high accuracy rate
- Demonstrated ability with standard business applications (ie: MS Office, email, internet)
- Must be able to work efficiently in fast paced industry with a time sensitive environment, multi task and prioritize work requirements
- Outstanding time management skills are very important
- Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions in written, verbal, or diagram form
- Must have strong interpersonal skills to be able to effectively work with clients, co-workers
- Outstanding written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization, clients
