Utility Worker
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Utility Worker’s job scope ranges from production dry goods distribution to plant housekeeping, including yard equipment and any other clean up duties required. The Utility person will be responsible for following established food safety and quality procedures. This position does require a flexible work schedule including mornings, afternoons and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the safe operation of forklifts and hand trucks, reporting any malfunctions immediately to a supervisor.
- Distribute dry goods for the production lines as requested and return any excess to the dry goods warehouse.
- Restack pallets having broken breading and batter bags.
- Remove broken and unnecessary pallets to storage.
- Empty inedible and garbage tanks when needed.
- Dump ice tanks as needed.
- Help to maintain the tidiness of the production area, equipment, floors and other areas of plant during the shift.
- Participate in training programs for relevant food safety & HACCP procedures, product quality requirements, equipment & process technology.
- Contribute to the overall Health and Safety of yourself and all team members. Participate in JHSC initiatives and follow established policies as outlined in the Health and Safety policies.
- Report all accidents, incidents and near misses to your Supervisor and a Member of the Health and Safety Committee.
- Report to supervisor or lead hand of work progress per requirement.
- Other tasks as directed by the Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate forklifts and hand tucks and maintain a current license
- Able to handle heavy lifting up to 30kg boxes
- Experience with food safety and HACCP principles preferred
- Must be dependable and hold an above average attendance record
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Good communication skills and able to work well in a team environment
- Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision
