Database Administrator

Full-Time, Permanent

Pickering College is an independent day and boarding school with grades Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, located in Newmarket, Ontario since 1909, founded in 1842. As a member of the Information Technology Department, under the direction of the Executive Director IT, as Database Administrator ensures that the business data is captured, stored, organized, maintained and accessible to all faculty and operational staff to carry out their day-to-day business operations and students to learn effectively.

This role is Full-time, permanent scheduled 35 hours/week during regular business hours. There may be a need to available after hours to attend critical and/or planned tasks as required.

Responsibilities:

· Assume responsibility for smooth operation and integration of the organization wide database systems.

· Maintaining the integrity, completeness, accuracy and security of data and troubleshooting any data issues.

· Support Junior/Middle/Senior schools’ operations associated with setting up course selection and scheduling, entering schedules / timetabling into SIS, conducting beginning and end of school-year processes, and developing report cards.

· Developing and applying appropriate processes to the database operation and ensuring that the data is readily available to all users.

· Assist in the organization wide analysis of data needs, recording the data needs, and executing appropriate configuration to ensure that the organization wide data requirements are met.

· Assist in identifying new business systems, developing business processes and migration of data from the existing systems to new systems.

· In conjunction with vendors, be responsible for testing, troubleshooting and implementing modern data systems.

· Conduct data analysis with the goal of discovering useful information, suggesting changes and supporting an evidence-based decision-making culture.

· Coordinate, train, support and troubleshoot all users in use of the database functions and data analytics.

· Create and coordinate with the various departments to update the documentation for data entry, data use and reporting, and business process flow with the aim of improving productivity and efficiency across the organization.

· Conduct regular audits, at least twice a year, to ensure that the best practices and standards are followed in data operation.

· Staying abreast of IT trends, research and attending professional development.

· Any other duties as required.

Qualifications and skills required:

· Degree in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Mathematics or related fields.

· At least five years hands-on experience in database systems or database administration.

· At least three years related work experience in data analytics or data modelling.

· Experience in MS-SQL, Report Writer and Analytical Tools like Power BI or Tableau.

· Experience in Student Information System, Learning Management System, Student Enrolment System, Alumni Engagement System and Billing Management is an asset.

· Experience within education sector is an asset.

· Experience in PowerSchool Student Information System is an asset.

· Highly organized with an ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.

· Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with different stakeholders.

· Good analytical skill and critical thinking.

· Attention to details while taking a holistic view when troubleshooting.

· Logical approach to work.

· Good organizing skills and time management.

· Ability to prioritise tasks and multi-task.

· Good interpersonal skills and proven customer service experience

· Ability to work in a small team environment.

· Proficiency in MS-Windows and Office 365
