PURPOSE:
The Estimator is responsible to compile timely, accurate, and competitive estimates, to provide a client or potential client, for a tendered or negotiated project. The incumbent is concerned with getting the most competitive and reliable sub-contractors or suppliers and produce a price that will win the contract in a competitive bidding situation, while ensuring the contract can be carried out and be profitable.

REPORTS TO:
This position reports to the General Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research potential projects to tender and present findings to General Manager
- Review specification books and addendum letters to ensure accurate scope of work
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Assess material, labour and equipment required for a project
- Analyze labour, material, and time requirements
- Send material take-offs to various vendors to ensure best pricing
- Analyze quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers
- Interact with Project Managers and Architects to obtain information and/or confirm details on drawings
- Create a scope of work for the project to present with the quote letter at the time of the tender
- Review the scope of work with the Contractor or Project Manager when the contract is awarded
- Travel to site to obtain site dimensions
- Organize a handover meeting with the Draftsperson in order to get the drawings completed
- Proofread drawings to ensure finishes, sizes, etc. are correct prior to sending the drawings to the customer
- Review any changes noted by the customer, send to be rectified and submit back to the customer for approval
- Ensure the Programming department has all necessary information such as templates for sinks, stainless steel tops, etc. in order for the project to be fabricated
- Send packages to sub-contract Installers to price jobs
- Optimize sheet goods with the help of the CNC Programmer to obtain the best yield possible prior to materials being ordered
- Create master list of all materials and hardware required and place orders
- Identify material issues that may affect the delivery and quality of the product
- Interact with the Project Manager in addition to other trades to get the project completed
- Liaise with the construction company to determine delivery/on-site dates
- Submit 100% of bids and budgets by bid deadline
- Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing data
- Update estimating schedule on a weekly basis.
- Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labour costing.
- Prepare and maintain supplier and contractor database

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate from a recognized Engineering, Construction Management, and/or Construction Science program
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Estimator
- Prior experience working hands-on in construction will be considered an asset
- Working knowledge and comprehension of blueprints, plans, and architectural drawings
- Experience with estimating software and spreadsheet design
- Exceptional problem solving, prioritizing, and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Excel, Internet, etc.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
