Thyssen Mining is a full-service underground mining contractor with several projects in Canada and the US. Thyssen Mining is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented individual to join our team in the position of Payroll Supervisor.
The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the payroll functions of the organization. This role ensures that payroll processing in Canada and the United States is completed accurately and on time, adhering to all company policies and regulatory requirements. The Payroll Supervisor will lead the payroll team, provide training and support, and handle escalated issues. The supervisor will be engaged with all aspects of the process, which may include processing. This position requires a high degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and strong organizational skills.
Reporting to the leader of Human Resources, the successful candidate will supervise the payroll team and work closely with other departments and onsite employees.
Our ideal candidate:
Minimum 5 years of applicable payroll experience with comprehensive knowledge of Canadian and US payroll regulations 2 years of supervisory experience with a payroll system supporting multiple payrolls, for multiple business units and companies, using multiple systems, with multiple compensation plans and policies across Canada and the United States
A diploma or degree in business administration or related field, with some accounting courses; Canadian or American payroll designation preferred
Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian and US statutory regulations
Possesses strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel, and other payroll systems
Experience processing pay in UKG is a definite asset
Impeccable accuracy with numbers and high attention to detail
Ability to be professional and exercise tact and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
Exceptional adaptability, organizational, and self-management skills
Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize a dynamic list of work on a day-to-day basis
Strong sense of deadlines and ownership of work
Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear, concise and formal business communications
Benefits administration experience working with benefits providers and an online benefits tool (enrolment and product system) would be ‘beneficial’
Proven experience working with time and attendance tracking in a system would also be an asset
Willingness to learn about and research payroll rules and regulations of additional jurisdictions on an as-needed basis
Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision
Must be willing to travel to project sites and offices in the US and Canada.
