Programs Officer, Research Acceleration and Strategic Initiatives
Primary Purpose: Research Acceleration and Strategic Initiatives (RASI), a unit of the OVPR, provides pre and post award support for grants from the individual to institutional level. RASI works with the university research community in key initiatives such as programming to support researchers at all levels, the incubation and development of large-scale institutional research programs and infrastructure projects, assisting researchers in navigating pre and post award grant processes, and linking research and teaching in undergraduate research. This position will specifically support the implementation and coordination of research cluster incubation ideas and teams in alignment with upcoming funding opportunities, and supports the undergraduate research scholarly and artistic works (UGRSAW) initiative.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Programs Coordinator, this position is part of a cohesive, cross-unit team providing excellent, proactive service to the research community through the delivery of RASI programs, workshops and events. The Programs Officer will provide administrative and financial support for UGRSAW, provide support for planning of events/ workshops, communications, and administration related to the incubation of ideas and research cluster and centre development, and strategic initiatives of the unit. The Programs Officer will use strong organizational, financial, analytical and communication skills to accomplish the tasks. The incumbent will require the ability to work flexibly as part of a team, respond to shifting priorities and will be expected to exercise judgement during fast-paced periods.
Typical Duties/Accountabilities:
- Work closely with the Coordinator UGRSAW to support:
- The First Year Research Experience program (FYRE) through coordination of events and the creation of communication materials, including developing letters of offer, processing Electronic Job Submissions, and tracking and approving student hours.
- Provide financial and administrative support for the Tri-Agency Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) program, and work with ConnectionPoint to process hiring documents for students and trouble shooting.
- The Student Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) initiative, especially the professional development and research communication activities, including the annual poster symposium, storytelling videos, peer-reviewed publications, etc.
- Develop communications materials, including a regular newsletter and social media posts, to advertise workshops, events, and increase the profile of UGRSAW.
- Conduct background research and undertake environmental scans to aid in development of strategic thematic areas of research, and clusters in alignment with funding opportunities.
- Coordinate strategic events/ workshops, provide expert logistical planning and support for special projects, including communications materials, such as newsletters, posters, and website content.
- Provide support to committees and working groups, including scheduling meetings, minute taking and following up on action items.
- Prepare official correspondence and presentations, including drafting, editing and proofreading.
- Exercise decision-making and problem-solving to ensure priorities and deadlines are met and take initiative to move beyond completion of assigned tasks to plan for future changes or requirements.
- Maintain collaborative interactions with stakeholders through professional, prompt, and courteous communications.
- Provide backup support to the Administrative Coordinator as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: An undergraduate degree in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in a financial and administrative role in an academic and/or research administration environment. A working knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan environment, including Connection Point, financial systems or research administration would be valuable assets.

- Excellent organizational, time management, and relationship building skills;
- Proven ability to work in a high volume setting and manage multiple projects with competing demands and deadlines;
- Ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail and ensure accuracy;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, while also able to work independently is an asset.
- Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Familiarity with website design is an asset.
