Shift Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Position Overview: The Shop Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of our tractor/trailer shop. This individual will troubleshoot heavy mechanical issues, give instruction and guidance to other mechanics, and maintain a safe and efficient shop. Though the primary responsibilities of this position will be managing all the personnel and daily activities of a small shop facility, the shop manager will also work closely with our national fleet maintenance team on a variety of topics.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Coordinate and oversee daily shop operations and manage parts inventory
- Facilitate a positive work environment and shop culture
- Coordinate with drivers and driver managers to facilitate all repairs and services in the shop.
- Work closely with local operations department with any repairs needed or employee concerns (80/20 on shop and office work)
- Complete a variety of repairs on trucks and trailers
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment when not working in office
- Conduct or oversee road-testing of complex or safety-related repairs
- Ensure each truck is current with PM and DOT inspections
- Work with Regional Director to manage staff schedules and performance
- Maintain and coordinate repairs for building and yard maintenance
Job Requirements:
- 5 years experience on heavy duty tractors and trailers
- 2 years managing mechanics and staff within a shop environment
- Knowledge of ABS, air brake, electrical, emissions, tires, and diagnostic software
- High School Diploma/GED, Trade or Vocational Training preferred
- Strong ability to multitask
- Willingness to juggle a moderate volume of emails and phone calls
- Proficient in basic computer skills
- Must have adequate tools to perform tasks required
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position (lifting up to 100 lbs., bending, climbing, standing for duration of shift, etc )
- Driver’s License is required; CDL is preferred
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check test and motor vehicle record check and not have any DUI or Drug Convictions in the last five years
- Effectively read, write & understand verbal instructions in English
