Job Description Summary Accountants and auditors prepare and examine financial records, identify potential areas of opportunity and risk, and provide solutions for businesses and individuals. They ensure that financial records are accurate, that financial and data risks are evaluated, and that taxes are paid properly. They also assess financial operations and work to help ensure that organizations run efficiently. Duties and responsibilities are performed at various levels within the defined title. Accounting properly identifies, records, measures, classifies, summarizes, verifies, and interprets the University’s financial transactions, assets, liabilities, income and expenses in accordance with accounting principles, policies and regulations. Creates, maintains and analyzes general ledger accounts, tax forms, financial statements and supporting schedules, financial and operational reports and financial controls . Maintains compliance with reporting and filing requirements. Serves as liaison to financial and operational leadership. Functions may include payroll, taxation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. Job Description Performs general accounting functions. Monitor the activities of university accounts within the general ledger. Work with other accounting areas including Accounts Payable, Bursar, Payroll, Procurement, and the University Foundation. May do invoicing and bank reconciliations as well as prepare various accounting forms. Identifies budgetary problems while preparing reports used by the departments. Essential Functions: Monitors revenue and expenses for departmental or unit accounts; ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, university policy, and standard accounting procedures. Constructs routine spreadsheet applications; prepares financial reports for department use and generates reports; performs calculations which may include interest and depreciation. Analyzes, reconciles, balances, and maintains accounting records; maintain reconciliation of accounts receivable. Prepares, reviews, and processes budget, revenue, expense, payroll, and related correcting entries; prepare bank reconciliations of intermediate complexity. Interacts with and trains department staff regarding finance policies, procedures and funding requirements. Monitor and reconcile donation data processing batches. May assist in audit activities. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Additional Position Information: Education: Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree. Experience: Requires up to two years’ experience in financial accounting as well as a familiarity with on-line computerized general ledger systems. Prefer one year of experience. Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, and database capabilities required. Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and procedures in working with specialized accounting records and reports.
