Amgen’s Attribute Sciences (AS) department within the Process Development (PD) organization defines the favorable quality characteristics of the therapies it produces and optimizes state-of-the-art analytical tools to guide that development. The Pivotal PD organizations focus is developing and commercializing robust manufacturing processes across a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including (but not limited to) monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, bispecific T-cell engagers (“BiTEs”), live modalities, and synthetic medicines.
The Department of Attribute Sciences in Process Development in Amgen is seeking an Associate Scientist with a background in affinity purification, mass spectroscopy (MS), liquid chromatography (LC), and capillary electrophoresis (CE); with some managerial skills and strong software proficiency with Empower and other electronic data/document management systems.
Under limited supervision, this hands-on laboratory-based position, Associate Scientist, in PD Pre-Pivotal AS would primarily be responsible for managing a sub-team of contract workers (CW), performing Product Quality (PQ) analysis for large volume of samples within set turn-around time (TAT) to meet client’s needs in the ATO Rapid Analytics (RA) team. The candidate will be an integral member of a dynamic team, collaborating with research scientists at multiple Amgen sites, and working closely with groups in partner organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a sub-team of CW
- Test samples using analytical tools, such CE and purification techniques
- Adhere to ATO RA TAT for samples results
- Ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Complete and review accurate electronic laboratory records in a timely fashion
- Work with development team to implement methods, analyze and interpret data
- Generate written reports as needed
- Communicate project updates as appropriate
- Solve technical problems with both instrument and assay issues as part of troubleshooting
- Participate and present scientific data in meetings
- Interact with clients for data and project demands
- Maintain instruments and follow lab’s general procedures
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
OR
Associate degree and 4 years of Scientific experience
OR
High school diploma / GED and 6 years of Scientific experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in life science or related field with 1-2 years of industry experience
- Possess good technical analytical techniques for LC, CE analysis
- Experience with automation and software for use in high throughput lab setting
- Proficient using data analyses software, such as Chromeleon, Empower, and 32Karat
- Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, a positive attitude and proactive mindset
- Experience with Mass Spec is a plus
