Director of Engineering, Embedded Software

Job Details **The ideal candidate will sit in Milwaukee, WI or be able to commute a few times a month or when needed** What you will do As a member of Johnson Controls Global Controls Engineering organization, you will lead the embedded software engineering team for a wide range of HVAC Equipment and Building Automation Controllers. You will report to the VP of Controls Engineering and will lead new product development and technology modernization of the portfolio as well as manage sustaining engineering of the current generation of products. In this position you will work in close collaboration with other product engineering and functional leaders globally to promote teamwork, to inspire and develop staff, to drive execution excellence and to deliver market leading products! How you will do it Works under general direction to define and complete development projects to align with our product strategies and achieve business objectives Works with global colleagues in other business units to establish technology strategies. Responsible for software architecture, feature/function software development, code modernization, cyber-security related software and lifecycle maintenance for a portfolio of building automation control systems. Drives appropriate rigor and discipline into the development process of the control products to ensure industry and customer expectations are met Owns the stewardship of the product and core software components throughout their lifecycle. Drive platforming and standardization across the portfolio along with the associated governance practices to institutionalize and sustain the practices. Directs and a team of managers leading embedded software and control engineers in North America with dotted line leadership of engineering teams in India, Europe, and China Responsible for global budget and resource management for department Builds a strong and integrated global team across design centers and strong working network with peers and functional leaders globally Builds and maintains a healthy leadership pipeline Maintains a culture that is driven to execute projects with speed and agility Defines, drives, and initiates continuous improvement to achieve functional excellence Keeps self and team current with technology and industry practices Works with leaders from across the business to leverage technology development and share standard processes Manages global employee competency, performance, engagement and diversity Provides leadership to implement development projects to program expectations and budget Leads product quality and product operating performance Monitors project health and proactively manages risk Actively advocates innovation and drives continuous improvement Fosters an environment of integrity and high ethical standards that aligns with the company’s Core Values What we look for BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field 15 years of experience in engineering product development with 5 years of management experience related to leading engineering teams, programs and/or projects (engineering management, project management and program management) Experience in software product development including engineering leadership experience associated with architecture, design, implementation and testing Strong interpersonal & leadership skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and influence others Ability to travel up to 10-15% Ability to accurately assess individual capabilities and limitations Ability to communicate technical issues across a wide variety of audiences Experience leading remote development teams, both domestically and internationally including the ability to travel to international locations Able to navigate through multiple areas of the businesses to build rapport and find opportunities to collaborate.
