ROLE SUMMARY Pfizer’s In Vivo Functional Genomics Unit is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who will lead our efforts to develop first-in-class mouse models for diabetic kidney disease. Under the guidance of research mentors and a Scientific Advisory Committee, the candidate will design a detailed research plan, work collaboratively within and beyond the unit to achieve the research goals, and share results via internal/external presentations and publications in high-impact journals. This is a unique opportunity to gain expertise in cutting-edge genome editing technologies for rodent model generation and develop deep experience in in vivo modeling of a devastating metabolic disease. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Independently design studies, execute experiments to produce high quality data utilizing technologies and resources available across Pfizer, and interpret results under the guidance of mentors. Effectively communicate results in internal and external forums and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Participate in identification and expansion of genetically modified mouse models (GEMMs) internally created to model diabetic kidney disease. Apply surgical, pharmacological, dietary and other challenges to the GEMMs to best recapitulate the features of diabetic kidney disease. Work closely with collaborators in our Internal Medicine Research Unit and other groups to validate different study designs utilizing molecular, biochemical, histopathological, and other relevant analyses. Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are performed according to scientific and ethical standards, with full compliance with all regulatory requirements, and correctly documented in lab notebooks. QUALIFICATIONS Basic Qualifications Recent PhD in molecular biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, pharmacology or related field with demonstrated productivity in independent research. 1-2 first-author publications (published or manuscripts submitted for publication) in high-quality specialty or general readership journals. Hands-on experience in working with in vivo disease models Demonstrated proficiency in basic molecular and biochemical techniques required, including some of the following: RNA/protein isolation from cells and tissues, qRT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA, immunostaining, flow cytometry, and RNA-seq. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Well organized, self-motivated, team oriented, ability to multitask with attention to detail.
