About the Role: Job Summary Serves as customer service advocate for NGHS to educate patient and guide them through all financially viable solutions for their portion of medical costs. Interviews and screens patient in person or by phone for their ability to pay based upon established policy and criteria. Collects payments and inputs financial data for patient. Minimum Job Qualifications Licensure or other certifications: Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of previous hospital business office experience required which must include healthcare experience. Other: Preferred Job Qualifications Preferred Licensure or other certifications: Preferred Educational Requirements: Two (2) years of additional experience in Accounting or Business Administration. Preferred Experience: One (1) year of hospital/healthcare/medical business office experience. Other: Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Patient Financial Services processes and procedures Personal Computer proficiency to include all programs necessary to perform job duties Good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal communication skills, including telephone proficiency Ability to work independently within guidelines Essential Tasks and Responsibilities Accepts all patient/customer calls lines in a professional manner, keeping wait times to a minimum. All calls will be returned within 24-48 hours if not sooner. Verifies insurances and patient registration, and loads in system. Verifies maternity benefits on all commercial insurances. Prepares global maternity benefit sheets and notates patient accounts in Allscripts with global benefits information. Obtains prior authorizations for all ultrasounds with Medicaid and Wellcare. Precerts in office procedures: schedule in office procedures, prepares care pricer estimates, notates patient accounts in Allscripts and scans precert flow sheet and care pricer estimate into TW Scan. Orders and keeps track of all IUDs for all locations. Verifies family planning benefits for IUD appointments and assures IUDS are billed out after procedure. Manages OB list to ensure all OB patients name, MFR, estimate date of delivery, and delivery location preference is documented for billing purposes. Counsels patients with financial concerns. Manages pregnancy notifications with patients changing from Medicaid to CMO plan. Manages assigned clinic tasks boxes (office procedures, financial counselor, etc.). Manages daily clinic schedule to ensure post-partum and post-ops are charged for services (vaginal delivery, C-section, etc.) Manages patient accounts to ensure insurance was filed and adjustments were made. Provides support for insurance appeals for denied claims. Contact Patients with past due balances to make them aware of payment obligations. Contributes to the productive and effective operations of the financial assistance area to enhance the success of the department and the organization. Recognizes the importance of and maintains effective working relationships with Physicians, and Physician office staff. Participates in training and orientation of new employees. Educates patients and guides them through all options to be able to settle their patient responsibilities.
