What are the responsibilities and job description for the UX Researcher position at 23andMe?

23andMe is looking for an experienced UX Researcher to help us build intuitive, logical and delightful experiences for our customers. You excel at deciphering consumer interests and behaviors through both quantitative and qualitative methods, and creating clear, actionable recommendations that improve the customer experience. This role will be working with all aspects of the Consumer Organization, focusing on areas such as consumer experience, UI design and evaluation, navigation flow, information architecture, and product testing.

You will be part of the Consumer Insights Team, a dynamic, cross-departmental service organization with a charter to represent the voice of the consumer and customer in everything we do. As the second member of the UX Research team, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of user research in a mission-driven organization developing cutting-edge products and services.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with product and design to integrate research throughout the product development lifecycle, from strategic discovery research to evaluative usability testing.
  • Develop research roadmaps for the product teams and workstreams you support, effectively scoping and prioritizing needs across the product organization.
  • Manage a variety of studies utilizing primarily qualitative methods, including 1:1 interviews, usability studies, diary studies, card sorting / tree testing, customer journey mapping, focus groups, and ethnographic studies.
  • Leverage strong communication skills to manage internal and external (vendor) relationships.
  • Communicate and socialize research findings clearly and compellingly. Summarize data in a presentation and recommendations across the organization confidently and on short timelines.
  • Collaborate in developing a culture of user research at 23andMe that keeps the consumer at the heart of product decision making while balancing the constraints and needs of the business.


What You'll Bring

  • 5 years of experience conducting UX research inside of a product organization. A strong background working with the best UX tools and methods to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to proactively develop effective partnerships with product, design, and analytics.
  • In-depth experience leveraging a variety of methodologies to independently manage projects end-to-end.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to deliver written and oral presentations to different constituencies of all levels.
  • Intellectual curiosity and innate desire to answer the big questions that will propel the organization forward.
  • The ability to deliver in a fast paced environment with a high level of professionalism, remaining flexible, proactive, and resourceful.
  • Passion for advocating for consumers and leveraging research findings to foster decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

Pay Transparency

23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
