We are looking for an experienced RF Systems Engineer with a focus on digital payloads, simulation and modelling to join Airbus Defence & Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Telecom Payload System Engineering team, integrated within our Space Engineering group. The Telecom Payload System Engineering team is a centre of competence gathering expertise in RF Systems; Electrical Systems; Mechanical & Thermal Systems and EMC. They provide engineering support to the Telecom business line (for payloads flying on Eurostar, OneSat and other third party satellite platforms), R&D activities, proposals and development of advanced payload products. The teams also supports payload design and customisation activities, performance analyses of the telecom mission’s payload and supports the Assembly, Integration and Test group (AIT) at Payload level, Spacecraft level and up to the delivery of the satellite to the customer after the completion of In Orbit Tests. HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM Member of the System Engineering Team assigned to a telecom payload project; the role has a strong focus on RF System performance analysis Understand and interpret customer requirements into analysis and models; generating from start or using existing models. Assist in the design processes for a telecom payload (for the initial phase of the project / if applicable) by producing trade-offs and presenting technical content to stakeholders. Support the production of detailed equipment specifications – flowing requirements from system level budgets and customer requirements; working hand-in-hand with Payload Equipment Specialist and Equipment Technical Authority ABOUT YOU Strong experience in RF system design in particular the ability to model and simulate subsystems and End to End system in digital wireless communications. Excellent knowledge of RF systems, Software Defined Radio / Digital Signal Processing, Antenna Array Systems and Satellite Communications. Experience in one or two of the following simulation tools or scripting languages is a must: MATLAB, SIMULINK, Octave, Advanced Design System (ADS), Python, SystemVue etc. Good understanding of RF communication signal design techniques (e.g. modulation, encoding, filtering) Solid theoretical background on digital communications and proven ability to apply the theory to solve practical problems Understanding of FPGA programming and ASIC development principles HOW WE CAN SUPPORT YOU Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways, including part-time.
