Job Description

Job Summary
The welder sets up and adjusts specific welding equipment for the type of welding to be performed. He/she reads or listens to instructions, examines prints or plans, measures materials, lays out materials, and uses appropriate welding methods to attach pieces of materials to build or fabricate finished products or parts. He/she performs welds that are appropriate and acceptable in penetration and appearance for the products fabricated.
Essential Duties
Visually inspects tools and equipment for safety and proper operation at the beginning of each shift. Notifies supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs or replacements.
Sets temperatures and gas gauges on welding equipment.
Reads instructions or plans, measures, holds and positions materials.
Lifts, moves, stacks, positions, aligns and fits together metal parts according to instructions or plans. May properly place parts and materials in a jig.
Safely and properly operates an overhead crane to position heavy materials.
Safely and efficiently welds seams of parts together using proper techniques for the job assigned.
Safely operates grinder or other proper tool to remove rough edges, surplus metals, surplus weld, or scale.
Uses and maintains required personal protective equipment as outlined in the 44 Iron Design Safety Manual.
Understands and follows all 44 Iron Design safety policies and procedures.
Other Duties
Cleans and organizes work area.
Appropriately disposes of scrap material and waste.
Assists with special projects as assigned by supervisor
Qualification Requirements
Ability to reach over and around objects to lift, move, or place objects or materials
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
Ability to lift over 50 to and up to 60 pounds occasionally.
Ability to occasionally lift objects weighing over 60 with assistance.
Ability to see in order to perform welding function, read drawing and instructions, and place materials where needed.
Ability to work on raised platforms, climb stairs or ladders, or climb off equipment or ladders.
Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, reach above shoulder height, and reach below shoulder height.
Ability to handle, place, manipulate, operate, stack, and connect equipment and materials through fine and basic hand skills.
Ability to use hands and fingers repetitively to grasp and hold up to 10 pounds for up to 20 minutes.
Ability to verbally communicate with coworkers and supervisors in a safe and productive manner.
Ability to work extended shifts to meet business demands.
Ability to pass a preemployment drug screen.
Working Conditions
Temperature and humidity variances consistent with normal outdoor ranges. Climate control in the facilities is limited. May occasionally require working outdoors.
Air contaminates such as smoke and dust may be present but are below the recognized TLV.
The presence of electrical and compressed air sources.
The presence of bottled gas and oxygen.
The presence of chemicals.
The presence of moving equipment, lift trucks or other vehicles.
May be subject to cramped working conditions in some cases.
Exposure to flying particles, hot metals, or molten metal.
Exposure to light radiation from welding or plasma cutting.
Exposure to sharp edges and points on steel and abrasive tools.
Exposure to falling or rolling steel.
