Position Summary
As the Associate Director of Website Production, you are at the intersection of UX, design, and development for large-scale website projects, most commonly in WordPress and Drupal. You are a solutions-oriented leader who understands all disciplines involved in constructing beautiful, high-performing websites, and communicating the strategy behind them to clients and internal team members. You’ll collaborate with other associate directors, directors, the Founders, and the business development team to understand the technology needs of projects from the very beginning. You’ll then oversee a team that collaborates with designers, developers, account managers, and strategists to uphold the requirements throughout the process through to execution.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Scoping and project plans. Assist project managers and business development reps by scoping the technical side of projects along with agile workflows so we can prepare proper SOWs with enough detail to chart the course.
- Product Management. 829 maintains a "platform" build in WordPress and Drupal along with some industry-specific frameworks (ie: platform builds for schools, hotels, community organizations). Serve as the “owners” of these products to ensure they are maintained, and that their current features are reflected in client SOWs and project plans.
- Uphold quality assurance on client projects. You review and approve websites before they are passed on to the client for review. You know about the clients' goals, personalities, and priorities, and ensure that we have delivered a product that will meet and exceed them.
- Own important relationships. You understand how to balance a client's budget and expectations with smart and innovative solutions. You are a creative problem-solver who creates value for clients while advocating for the interests of internal team members.
- Ensure that projects are on time and on budget. Collaborate with project managers to proactively cite risks if the timeline begins to slip and find opportunities to optimize if possible.
- Participate in the resource allocation process. Ensure that the right team members are available to perform work at the right time.
- Maintain best practices. Ensure that protocols are being followed.
- Manage and grow a team. Mentor and coach a team of technical and creative producers. Step in to help them and their projects and client relationships when needed.
- New Service Development: Collaborate with other web team leaders to scope new services – personalization, A/B testing, etc.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least ten years of experience in a full-service digital agency is required. While we will consider candidates with in-house experience, an agency background is preferred.
- First-hand experience "doing the work" for various disciplines involved in the web process; your experience helps you solve problems for both clients and internal team members because you've been in their shoes.
- The ability to problem-solve, confidently make decisions, and lead projects with empathy and authority.
- A firm understanding of how websites are built using waterfall and agile processes, and the awareness to assign responsibilities and route tasks accordingly.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- An understanding of integrated digital marketing and its various components. The foresight and understanding to loop in additional marketing disciplines beyond web when appropriate.
- Experience using project management software and spreadsheets.
