About the Position:

8minute Solar Energy seeks an experienced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager. This important and dynamic role supports all stages of project development. Among other responsibilities, the GIS Manager will assist in site identification, initial constraints analysis, origination, land acquisition, and permitting. Candidates must have extensive experience with Enterprise and Desktop GIS, both aptitude and willingness to acquire new proficiencies and innovate to meet changing needs, and ability to work well in a cross-cultural and geographically dispersed team. Previous experience in renewable energy and/or greenfield development experience is a plus.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain geospatial data libraries
  • Use GIS software to perform geoprocessing tasks, data digitization, and feature creation
  • Convert geospatial data into various formats (e.g., .shp to .kmz, CAD to .shp, etc.)
  • Publish and maintain geospatial datasets, maps, and apps on an Enterprise GIS Portal
  • Assist the land acquisition team in market prospecting efforts
  • Perform critical issues analyses to identify development risks
  • Create cartographically-sound maps to support RFPs, permitting applications, and marketing materials
  • Perform spatial analyses to assess site constructability issues (e.g., soils, geology, slope, hydro)
  • Conduct spatial analyses to produce temporary and permanent disturbance acreage estimates
  • Assist the permit compliance team by developing GIS solutions to increase permit compliance efficiency, calculate mitigation obligations, and control and reduce costs
  • Assist the regulatory affairs team by conducting geospatial analyses and producing maps that depict the implications of potential policy changes
  • Work effectively as a member of a cross-functional development team proactively identifying issues and develop GIS solutions to address issues

Skills:

  • Master's degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, GIScience, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 5 years experience conducting geospatial analyses
  • Proficiency in ArcPro, ArcGIS 10.X, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Python, Spatial Analyst, and ModelBuilder
  • Knowledge of field data collection methods and GPS technologies
  • Expertise in cartographic principles and map creation
  • Relevant experience and expertise performing raster- and vector-based spatial analyses
  • Experience building and maintaining geospatial data libraries
  • Understanding of versioning/ collaborative data editing
  • Experience creating web map applications
  • Knowledge of natural resource impact analysis and development permitting implications
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional development team and proactively identify and address cross-functional issues
  • Experience working with CAD data
  • Proficiency with QGIS, GRASS, and other GIS software packages
  • Experience supporting greenfield development is desirable
  • CEQA and NEPA experience is desirable
