The salary range for this position is $118,737.90 to 155,546.64

A Lead Telecommunications Engineer provides support developing telecommunications requirements for large complex voice and data cabling projects. Specific position responsibilities include the following:
- Providing in-depth engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives for Government agencies in support of their enhancement and operational efforts.
- Providing telecommunications/cabling enhancement designs for large-scale voice and data infrastructures.
- Providing support during design, as well as testing and fielding of new and upgraded solutions.
- Maintaining applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Confined Space and OSHA 10 General Certifications.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Infrastructure Services Flight Chief in Cable Plant Management in support of Connect Services. The scope of Base Cable Plant Management includes 200 communications closets in 80 buildings. Work orders average 50 per week. Base cable projects average 40 per year.
- Coordinate and communicate with the UC Systems manager for cable management pertaining to select voice services.
- Ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards & 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
- Perform base cable plant management functions and duties, including engineering, installation, maintenance, configuration management, planning support, and project management.
- Provide cable engineering support to base projects (renovations, upgrades, and new building construction), including inside plant, outside plant, backbone cabling, structured cabling systems, grounding and bonding, pathways and space, wireless, and communication closet design.
- Maintain supplies, equipment, and other assets according to applicable property management Air Force Instructions (AFIs).
- Maintain accurate records of all inside plant (intra-building), outside plant (inter-building), and miscellaneous cable runs (fiber optic [single and multi-mode] and copper [CAT5E and higher and TDM (CAT3) service lines]) providing services to the core and non-core networks.
- Act as central manager for all communications (voice and data)/network conduit/interduct, wiring closets/distribution points, including coordinating (for approval decision) all requests for installation and removal of cable with the Government, conduct quality assurance inspections for each, identifying deficiencies with recommended corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Base Civil Engineering to prepare and issue digging permits to prevent damage or destruction of underground network and communications cables for which the contractor maintains records.
- Provide engineered technical solutions to meet new Government requirements for cable and infrastructure.
- Oversee and participate in the following capabilities as part of Cable Plant Management:
- Cable Moves/Adds/Changes
- Cable Plant Monitoring and Restoring
- Cable Plant Planning/Engineering
- Cable Visitor Support

Certification and Requirements:

- Hands-on experience as a Cable Plant Manager, with similar scope and size of the HAFB requirements above.
- Compliance experience with specific Air Force standards, including 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards and 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
- Hands-on experience with day-to-day cable plant management functions and duties, including engineering, installation, maintenance, configuration management, planning support, and project management.
- Experience keeping cable management records.
- Experience managing cable-related projects, including communications (voice and data)/network conduit/interduct installations and maintenance, wiring closets/distribution point upgrades, installation and removal of cable; conducting quality assurance inspections on existing and new solutions.
