Job Description

About the role: 

The primary focus of this position is to provide consultation services to both internal and external customers, through in-person contact, telephone, email, written correspondence, and the Internet regarding all areas of Customs Law and regulations including Tariff Classification, Customs Valuation, various types of Appeals and Disputes, Refunds, Amendments, Drawbacks, Taxes, Seizures, Entry Audits and Reviews, Customs Valuation, Anti-Dumping, AMPS penalties, and other related topics.

The role will support the Consulting/Compliance team in ensuring that the requirements and business processes associated with cross-border movements function smoothly while ensuring that risks and opportunities are identified and managed efficiently:

  • Support day-to-day  compliance activities of the organization
  • Assist with developing and implementing internal processes to identify and recover Customs Duties and Taxes paid in error due to incorrect B3 information submitted to CBSA
  • Prepare Advance Rulings, Penalty appeals, Proposals, and Agreements 
  • Implementing corrective actions (e.g. amending customs entries) and improving internal controls to ensure future compliance
  • Audit and code Broker invoices, Review monthly B3 Data Report for Transfer Pricing Discrepancies, Prepare Export documents, Prepare Import Declarations, Prepare Prior Notices, CUSMA Certificate Maintenance, HS & HTS Database Maintenance, Prepare Monthly KPI Reports
  • Support in maintaining overall compliance with duty drawback regulations in various jurisdictions
  • Communicate with customs authorities on technical duty drawback matters and prepare duty drawback entries for submission
  • Assist with compliance reviews, internal self-assessments, client QBRs, and post-entry audits
  • Solicit and verify certificates of origin and records needed to support free trade agreement claims (e.g., USMCA, Canada-EU FTA, etc.).
  • Perform periodic post-importation review to ensure overall customs compliance (focus on HS classification, tariff treatment, valuation), and complete voluntary disclosures and/or adjustments (B2) as needed
  • Support the Free Trade Team in the application of various trade agreements and rules of origin
  • Handle CBSA Compliance Verifications and other post-filing inquiries and requirements
  • Identify cost mitigation opportunities
  • Provide trade compliance support for projects, new business opportunities, and proposals

Qualifications

What kind of experience and demonstrated success will YOU bring to A & A? Here are just some of the key skills and abilities we are looking for:

 The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Preferred: 10-15 years of customs experience with 5 of those years in the consulting field (Minimum of 5 years of customs experience)
  • Preferred Certifications such as CCS, CTSC, CIFFA
  • Have a working knowledge of OGD's (PGA's) and their impact on the import process 
  • Proven experience in appeals, rulings, proposals, duty drawbacks, and agreements
  • Proven track record in managing projects
