About EveryDay Labs

EveryDay Labs’ mission is to improve student outcomes through the power of behavioral science. We partner with school districts to reduce absenteeism because we believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn every day. We work with some of the leading districts in the nation including LA Unified, Dallas ISD, and Fulton County. We are passionate about making an impact on the lives of students, families, and educators, and our research and products are frequently featured in publications such as EdWeek.

EveryDay Labs is backed by leading impact investors such as Reach Capital and Rethink Impact. You can read more about our recent Series A funding here.

How You Can Help

As a Data Engineer at EveryDay Labs, your work will immediately improve student outcomes by helping districts across the country reduce absenteeism. You’ll help increase learning time for students who need it most—in the classroom and in remote learning. As a member of our Data Science and Engineering team, your primary responsibility will be running student attendance data through our data processing pipeline for our school district partners in order to deliver our programs. You will also work on writing and improving code to optimize and automate data processes and add features for our district partners. As you learn and grow in the role and on the team, you will take on more complex and larger district partners, lead and own automation projects, and help our partners make data-informed decisions about their broader portfolio of attendance strategies.

As a team, our goal is to produce software and insights that are proactive, guiding our stakeholders—both internally and in schools—towards the right thing to do next, rather than taking a reactive view or simply describing what has already happened.

Our Data team is highly collaborative, making sure that just because we’re all remote, we’re not alone. We tackle major projects together or in small teams, embrace modern online communication tools, and make sure we’re doing what works with regular, open, and honest retrospectives.

EveryDay Labs is an equal opportunity employer, and we are actively seeking to build a team and workplace that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.

Qualifications (Must Have)

  • Proficiency in Python or another object-oriented programming language
  • 1-2 years of experience managing, manipulating, or analyzing datasets
  • Some experience in or exposure to one or more dialects of SQL
  • Attention to detail, ability to manage simultaneous work streams, and strong communication skills
  • Driven by mission: you feel a deep sense of ownership for your work, have a relentless desire to deliver better results, and are passionate about solving problems
  • Fearless about learning: You love learning new things. You’re curious and ask insightful questions. You solicit feedback from others, accept it with grace, and act on it
  • Flexibility: You like to contribute in a variety of different and evolving ways
  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in a mathematical or technical field, or equivalent professional or volunteer experience

Note: Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Bonus Points (Nice to Have)

  • Understanding of how data is used in K-12 education and the challenges faced by the classroom teacher, principal, and district administrator
  • Knowledge of modern, cloud-based data pipeline best practices
  • Experience working remotely or as part of a geographically distributed team
  • Proficiency with Unix command line tools
  • Proficiency with additional programming languages or statistical software, such as Java, Stata, or R
  • Experience with frameworks and services we use, like Pandas, NumPy, SQLAlchemy, and Docker
  • Experience deploying applications on AWS or automating data pipelines and QA processes
  • Experience with data visualization in Tableau or other visualization and BI tools

This role is fully-remote and will require two in-person meetings a year for company retreats.

EveryDay Labs is an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orienation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

We are a remote-only team, and candidates must be legally eligible to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available). All candidates must reside in the United States.
