Data Engineer - San Diego, CA (La Jolla/UTC area)

Hybrid or Remote, Full time M-F 8am-5pm PST, Working Onsite in San Diego from time to time

National Funding is continuing to grow its Data Science Department and has an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer. Reporting to the Director, Data Science, the Data Engineer will help streamline our data science workflows, adding value to our product offerings and building out lifecycle and retention models. In addition, work closely with data science and business intelligence teams to develop data models and pipelines for research, reporting and machine learning.

Major Responsibilities:

• Analyze, combine and organize raw data for multiple sources
• Design and build data architecture and pipelines
• Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive analytics
• Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability
• Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities, evaluate business needs, and to create solutions that will improve decision making.
• Use quantitative analysis, machine learning and data science tools to improve our processes
• Design metrics, reports, dashboards and BI solutions for data quality, and various data science applications
• Interpret trends and patterns
• Develop analytical tools and programs
• Collaborate with data scientists and architects on several projects

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Bachelors or master’s in computer science, or related technical field.
• 4 years of Data Science or Data Engineering experience, specifically with data pipelines, ETL, data modeling and data architecture
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing AWS based data storage
• Strong programming skills, especially in Python or Scala
• Expertise in SQL
• Experience with distribute data/computing tools such as Spark
• Experience with data presentation and visualization with tools such as Tableau
• Show efficiency in handling data - tracking data lineage, ensuring data quality, and improving discoverability of data

• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
