Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Equipment Mechanic is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing all machinery and vehicles. Duties will include monitoring inventory, inspecting vehicles, and repairing all A-Line owned fleet and industrial equipment.
- Conduct regular maintenance on all heavy duty and light equipment, trucks, trailers, industrial equipment, and vehicles owned by A-Line.
- Perform preventative maintenance on trailers to ensure trailers meet the U.S. Department of Transportation's road safety requirements.
- Perform repairs to brakes and electrical systems, replace parts.
- Perform routine maintenance on trucks, such as checking batteries and changing the oil to ensure proper vehicle running.
- Checking and repairing the brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Maintaining hubs and axles and adjusting or replacing them when required.
- Replace parts, valves, bearings, and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems.
- Inspect machines, engines, transmissions, etc., and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.
- Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components.
- Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery.
- Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
- Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
- Maintaining hubs and axles and adjusting or replacing them when required.
- Compiling inspection reports, documenting repairs, and reporting all findings to management.
- Use different tools and equipment, such as pressure gauges, pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, screwdrivers, hoists, and jacks, to repair trucks while utilizing safety precautions.
- Test drive vehicles to ensure they are running properly and to find issues to determine what the solution will be.
- Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
- Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
- Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks.
- Complete work orders for repairs.
- Perform repairs on screw and belt conveyors.
- Maintaining and repairing transformer decommissioning equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment.
- Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical, and ABS brake systems preferred.
- Knowledge in Hydraulic Systems and repairs.
- Knowledge in 6VDC-48VDC Electrical systems and repairs.
- Familiar with Hydraulic and Electrical Schematic.
- Ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills.
- Proficient in diagnostic software.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program or professional certification is preferred.
- 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Class A CDL required or the ability to obtain.
- Experienced in Mig, Stick Welding and fabrication preferred.
- Possession of own hand tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
Working Conditions:
This is a physically demanding position. The employee will stand for eight or more hours. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works inside and/or outside and is exposed to all weather elements, including: extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. The employee is frequently required to use fingers, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. They will use a variety of hand and power tools as well as operate heavy equipment. The employee will be exposed to noise, heavy vibration, dust, exhaust fumes and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
