Position Summary:
AAA United States, Inc. has partnered with a company in Marinette, Wisconsin that is a leading US shipbuilder active in the naval and commercial sector. This company is a specialist in the construction, repair, and conversion of Coast Guard and commercial vessels including ATBs and OSVs.
The Shipfitter is responsible for general assembly of steel or aluminum ships through welding using electric, gas, arc and other welding equipment. Determines proper equipment to be used and inspects, tests and repairs work pieces accordingly.
Essential Functions:
- Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, plum bob, auto level, transit, go-no-go gauge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
- Cuts work piece, using powered saws, gas torch, oxi-fuel, and plasma torch.
- Installs or repairs decks, bulkheads, and tank linings.
- Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
- Prepare and inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
- Removes rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
- Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
- Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
- Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
- One year of Shipfitter experience.
- Weld Certificate from technical school preferred (this requirement can also be met with at least 2 years of relevant work experience.)
- Must have experience setting up, troubleshooting, and utilizing weld machines.
- Must have experience laying out and measuring utilizing the metric system.
- Must have experience working with blueprints.
- Must have experience working with hand tools.
- Must have experience working with overhead cranes to include safe rigging of equipment to be lifted.
- Must be able to work at heights.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Must be available to work all 3 shifts, and weekends as required.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must be able to work in confined and enclosed spaces.
