Position Summary
The Math Computer Laboratory Specialist is responsible for supporting the Computer Lab Manager in the operations of the 100-seat Math Lab in Careers 190, plus several 25-seat math classroom computer labs on the Arnold campus, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Computer Lab Specialist also provides assistance to the off-campus math classroom computer labs at the Arundel Mills and Glen Burnie Town Center locations. Daily, the Lab Specialist provides high-quality tutoring services for a diverse population of native and dually enrolled mathematics pathways students, as well as managing proctored testing and maintaining the course policies of the Math Department. The Lab Specialist monitors peer tutors and assists the Mathematics Assistant Dean, the Pathway Coordinators, the Director of Math Partnership Programs, and individual Faculty members by providing training, software administrative support, and information about learning management systems. The Lab Specialist is also responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting software-related problems, both network and non-network-related, in all the math computer labs and in other locations of the college where mathematics software is installed. Other duties include preparing data reports as requested by the assistant dean, preparing course materials for the start of each semester, and supporting successful course completion between semesters.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Tutoring is a foundational academic service, and this position directly supports a diverse population of entry-level students who must attain college and career readiness to pursue a degree or certificate program. This position is responsible for supporting daily operations of the Math Computer Labs during the evening shift from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday. This includes working with individual and small groups of both native and dually enrolled students, monitoring student tutors, maintaining secure testing procedures, promoting a positive lab environment, and providing oversight of the
math computer labs, including the large 100-seat Math Lab in Careers 190, plus various 25-seat math classroom computer labs on the Arnold campus, as well as maintaining the off-campus math labs at Arundel Mills and Glen Burnie Town Center.
Enforces Mathematics Department policies, including checking student note-taking guides for completion and accuracy, administering proctored assessments to ensure academic integrity, helping students with mastery learning and retesting procedures, and verifying student make-up hours. This position includes coaching and guiding to ensure an equitable culture of engagement where all students learn the necessary study skills and work habits that improve student success, close achievement gaps, and reduce systemic inequalities. Also collects course data and prepares reports to assist the Mathematics Assistant Dean and the
Pathway Coordinators as needed.
Assists a diverse population of Instructors with mathematics and mathematics software, including password changes, gradebook questions, LMS support, and problem-solving as issues arise. Monitors part-time student peer tutors who work in the various computer labs tutoring and assisting with mathematics instruction. Responsible for ensuring that peer tutors adhere to the Mathematics Department policies.
This position also supports dually enrolled mathematics students, as well as the secondary mathematics partnership programs, by providing tutoring, proctored testing, and coaching to early college students. Assists the Director of Math Partnership Programs with administrative duties of monitoring the grades and progress of approximately 500 dually enrolled high school students. Work between semesters includes course software updates as well as support in preparing training materials.
Monitors the functioning of all Math Computer Lab(s) hardware and software and troubleshoots problems as they occur. Communicates with providers of the software products (tech support), when necessary, to resolve problems encountered by students or faculty.
Stays current and proficient with standard college software and with all software used for mathematics courses. Assists with researching and evaluating new software prior to acquisitions and resolving problems encountered by instructors.
Communicates with students and faculty by responding to software questions in person, by phone, and via email; assists faculty in setting up accounts for course management software, and assists students in accessing and registering in appropriate math classes
Recommends procedures to the Computer Lab Manager for the best management of the math computer labs to maintain a positive learning environment and to provide security for the AACC technology resources.
Monitors the inventory of math computer lab supplies and alerts the Math Computer Lab Manager when orders are necessary.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher
Excellent arithmetic and algebraic skills with a minimum of one-year of work experience tutoring mathematics.
Proven proficiency with computer hardware and networks, graphing calculators, the Microsoft Office suite, and software and mathematics applications such as MyLabsPlus, MyMathLab, Hawkes, ALEKS, EdReady, StatCrunch, and MyOpenMath
Minimum of one-year work experience providing technical support and user assistance.
Ability to work effectively and tactfully with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
