Description
Job Summary: Prepare monthly and quarterly income tax journal entries and reconciliations. Responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns and assisting the organization in minimizing their tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
Essential Responsibilities/Activities:
- Prepares calculations and workpapers for income tax returns.
- Prepares income tax returns (individual and consolidated where required) for all states and municipalities.
- Assists with tax audits and responds to tax authorities on behalf of employer.
- Reviews and analyzes tax letters from state jurisdictions and responds accordingly.
- Prepares annual property tax returns for assigned locations.
- Analyzes state tax depreciation of fixed assets monthly.
- Facilitates communications with third parties, as needed.
- Analyzes financial reports in connection with the tax return preparation.
- Computes taxes owed, and completes entries on forms, following tax form instructions.
- Prepares updates for SOX narratives related to new tax preparation procedures.
- Prepares Standard Operating Procedures related to new tax preparation procedures.
- Prepares the Company’s quarterly book provision and deferred tax calculations.
- Prepares quarterly income tax estimate calculations.
- Prepares month/quarter-end journal entries for taxes and other necessary entries.
- Prepares month/quarter-end reconciliations for the tax related accounts, including franchise and ad valorem.
- Stays updated on changes in tax laws, accounting standards and industry trends.
- Research tax laws as needed to determine filing requirements.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Public accounting experience and CPA is preferred. Industry experience is a plus.

- Proficiency in accounting software and tax preparation software.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Work Environment:
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs.
- Ability to sit for up to 95 percent of work hours.
