The Data Architect will work in a fast-paced and dynamic hybrid association environment. The Data Architect will ensure the security, access, and performance of data systems and applications, aligning data architecture with overall enterprise architecture, and maintaining extensive knowledge of databases and their relation to business operations. The Data Architect will translate strategic requirements into a usable enterprise data framework and guide data solutions development while facilitating consistent data design, optimization, archiving, and recovery strategy.
The team includes a range of data engineers, data analysts, database administrator, focusing heavily on the AAOS registry projects. Some additional team members provide knowledge and support for the traditional TSQL, NOSQL(Cosmos) and ETL methods.
- Streamlines existing data architecture, delivering reusable services and cost saving opportunities in line with the policies and standards of the group. Ensures the end-to-end solution is fit for purpose, meets the needs of business, the agreed requirements, and are both pragmatic and supportive of the strategic architecture direction. Develops conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support data analysis and business intelligence.
- Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analytics. Defines and manages standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure data quality. Ensures technology solutions are in alignment with data architecture principles and target state. Improves the way data assets are managed and works with the business to find new ways to monetize data.
- Provides centralized data services for Digital solutions teams – data scientists, full stack developers, data analysts, cloud, and BI team. Covers multiple data driven projects encompassing data requirements gathering, discovery, pipeline design, data modeling, and query tuning. While working independently, acts as the lead expert in data, and works with business analysts, project managers, architects, app developers and data engineers to deliver the results on time and with quality. Applies advanced consulting skills and extensive technical expertise with full industry knowledge. Develops innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Designs and creates custom data structures, stored procedures, views, indexes, and connections that facilitate the needs of data related initiatives and projects. Designs, maintains, and implements Disaster Recovery strategies for critical business servers. Develops and enforces database security standards and best practices including performance, security, monitoring policies and procedures. Conducts operational tasks in the administration of database systems and infrastructure ensuring that security, backup, and maintenance functional needs are met.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, with three years of professional experience working as a Database Engineer supporting complex data infrastructures.
- Very strong (10 years) SQL experience writing queries within large-scale database environments.
- Experience with TSQL, NOSQL, OLTP, and OLAP Systems
- Working knowledge of SSAS cubes and architecture
- Proficient with Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Python for scripting and ETL automation
- Working experience with general DevOps, such as building infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft technology stack, background in Azure Infrastructure as a Service environment desired
- Demonstrated knowledge of data models, data analytics, Azure Data warehouse, and cloud data architecture.
- Demonstrated experience with dimensional and relational modeling, establishing data structures for data marts and data warehouses, and supporting development teams with custom database needs.
- Applied knowledge of Microsoft Security/Authentication Concepts (Active Directory, IIS, Windows OS)
- Ability to implement, maintain, and troubleshoot big data infrastructures.
- Strong technical planning skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask across a number of work streams.
- Passion for continued improvement, learning and mentoring.
- Experience working in a business environment with demonstrated skills in report generation, ad hoc query tools such as Power BI or Tableau
- Polished presentation skills; experience creating and presenting findings to executive level staff.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to communicate ideas and solutions effectively.
- Highly collaborative with the ability to manage and motivate project teams and meet deliverables.
Desired:
- Previous work experience with medical associations or not-for-profit organizations
- Previous work experience with Clinical Data Registries
- Knowledge of Big Data Programming languages such as Scala, R, Spark etc.
- Formal knowledge and experience with the CRM Systems (Salesforce, Dynamics 365) and Power Apps
