AARP's Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. The Communications Manager engages in the development and implementation of communications strategies for targeted audiences on multi-channel platforms. The Manager designs campaigns to raise awareness and inform, educate, and influence internal and external audiences. This position is responsible for designing campaigns and measuring the effectiveness of campaigns. As the Communications Manager, you are responsible for ensuring content aligns with the enterprise brand strategy and architecture.


Responsibilities

  • Develops, distributes, and manages internal communication content and tools for knowledge sharing, and collaboration. Draft clear and concise messages, briefs, talking points, remarks, summaries, and memos for a variety of channels and audiences.
  • Develops and refines messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of communication. Leverages internal and external communication platforms to relay complicated content using storytelling and illustrations, and other consumable formats.
  • Analyze, evaluate and synthesize information to inform decisions and drive outcomes.
  • Plans, organizes, and implements special assigned projects working with cross-functional teams, as necessary. Determines scope and execution, tracks progress towards milestones, establishes timelines, and evaluates progress. Establishes project communication plans and ensures internal/external stakeholders are informed regarding project processes and impact.
  • Design and maintain social media presence. Work with contacts across AARP to ensure consistency of message, alignment and integration of communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of communications experience, with progressive responsibility for communications strategy development and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring rapid turnaround to support organizational response to emerging issues.
  • Demonstrated experience producing highly effective executive communications for use in a variety of channels.

Preferred:

  • 8 years of communications experience, with progressive responsibility for communications strategy development and execution.
  • Ability to identify and implement strategies that increase awareness to organization's social impact agenda.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
