Our Early Learning Center is currently seeking a qualified Kitchen Assistant join our team. ABC Kiddie Kampus is committed to creating encouraging environments where everyone has a sense of belonging and the opportunity to contribute in meaningful and impactful ways.
Position Summary: Under general supervision, the Center Cook plans and prepares all meals for children enrolled at Kids & Company; maintains kitchen inventory and record keeping. The Center Cook is responsible for all kitchen operations while ensuring adherence to Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and all public health regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for enrolled children based on appropriate portions outlined by the CACFP; prepare substitute items for children on restricted diets.
- In collaboration with the Center Director, develop or alter food menus to adhere to CACFP guidelines.
- Practice safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen, pantry and storage areas while maintaining proper personal hygiene practices.
- Maintain kitchen inventory including food, beverage and paper products; planning and preparing orders on a weekly basis.
- Maintain an accurate record of all menus; properly rotating menus on a weekly basis.
- Distribute food to classrooms in a timely manner.
- Responsible for cleaning the center kitchen, lobby/hallway areas and employee restrooms on a daily basis; including but not limited to properly washing all items used for food preparation, cleaning kitchen appliances, sanitizing counters and mopping floors.
- Clean and sanitize all toys from each classroom dirty toy bin on a daily basis.
- Clean and sanitize all bottle and sippy cups from classrooms daily.
- Properly launder all sheets, bibs, wash clothes, and other related materials daily.
- Perform mathematical calculations accurately.
- Display an understanding of early childhood nutrition and appropriate portion distribution.
- Work cooperatively with team members, students, and vendors.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by team members to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Team Members are frequently required to stand, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, sit, talk, listen and write.
- Team Members are frequently required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- The noise level in the environment ranges from quiet to loud.
- Duties are performed indoors and outdoors.
Education and Experience Requirements
- A minimum of a high school diploma, and 1 year of kitchen experience is required.
- One year of childcare experience is preferred.
It is preferred that the Cook has attained, one of the following qualification levels:- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field. OR
- A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in § 3270.31(c) (relating to age and training). OR
- (3) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year of experience with children. OR
- (4) A high school diploma or a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in § 3270.31(c). OR
- (5) A high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and 2 years’ experience with children.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 1 year of Kitchen experience is preferred
- A minimum of 1 year of Childcare experience is preferred
