The Abiomed Data Engineering and Analytics group is a team of data engineering, developers, data scientists, and researchers building the data-driven, research pipeline for a new generation of life saving Impella devices. We are currently hiring a Clinical Data Programmer to expand the existing suite of data analytics tools. These tools deliver insights from our massive repositories of data to stakeholders across the company. This role requires the implementation of ETL pipelines for Clinical Data to help groups across the company leverage valuable insights within our datasets; insights which directly contribute to new indications, new algorithms, product designs, and other life-saving technologies.
In this key role in the Data Engineering and Analytics team, you will be designing/developing new ETL pipelines from EMR/EHR’s and Clinical EDCs. We are looking for an analytical self-starter with a passion for learning, and attention to detail, and is motivated to understand/analyze complex clinical datasets.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Design/validate extract-transform-load (ETL) scripts for our existing and upcoming clinical EDCs into our centralized database.
- Design tools to automatically transform HL7 FHIR formatted data into our centralized database.
- Integrate analytical research tools with Clinical dataset
- Work on pipelines for providing data to ML/AI training pipelines
- Perform basic statistical analyses on data within the repository to provide actionable insights.
- Consult with stakeholders across the company on availability, scale, and quality of data sources.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biological Sciences, Nursing, or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of medical data, including medical coding systems (LOINC, CPT, ICD-9/10, SNOMED, etc.)
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a software developer or data analyst
- Proficient in multiple programming languages (Python, Erlang/Elixr, or C /C# preferred)
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience with relational and document-style databases
- A successful history of extracting value from large, distributed datasets
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured data
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Strong communicator who can work across disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or demonstrated excellence in scientific research
- Experience with medical data (EMR/EHR, EDC, etc.) strongly preferred
- Experience working in a regulated environment and/or adapting requirements to conform to FDA guidelines
- Experience with natural language processing (NLP)
- Experience with cloud services (Azure or AWS preferred)
- Experience with modern programming languages such as Rust/GoLang/Swift
- Experience with Agile Scrum methodology
