Sports Turf Manager

Essential Functions:

1. Maintain excellent customer service and communication skills with employees, clients and management.
2. Advanced knowledge of sports turf and landscape maintenance methods, practices and equipment.
3. Ensures that safety and risk management practices are followed in the performance of all work.
4. Utilize labor, materials, supplies and equipment in an efficient manner.
5. Organize work to ensure efficient use of resources and to meet work completion deadlines.
6. Attend meetings and training seminars.
7. Manages the selection, and training of employees.  Completes employee performance evaluations.  Completes termination paperwork.   
8. Workers’ Compensation: call in accidents to WC provider; follow-up on treatment, return to work status; post-accident drug testing.
9. Assists in equipment and supply inventory management.
10. Maintains work files and records as requested.
11. Coordinates securing uniforms for employees.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position requires the following physical capabilities:  standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 pounds), pushing and pulling (up to 50 pounds), bending, squatting, reaching, working in warm and cold weather, hand/eye coordination, ability to distinguish colors, vision.  The Sports Turf Manager must be able to operate equipment typically used in sports turf and landscape operations. 

1. Must possess a valid Class “A” State of Florida Drivers License and have a clean MVR.
2. Must pass a drug screening test and ability to legally work in the United States of America.  All positions require passing a police background and criminal record check.
3. Must have membership in the Sports Turf Management Association.
4. Must be a certified Sports Turf Manager and must have a valid turf and ornamental pesticide license for the state.
5. Working knowledge of Basic Excel, Word, Email, internet, etc. is desirable.
6. Must be able to work independently and be very self-motivated.
7. Must be knowledgeable of sports turf and landscape maintenance operations.
8. High degree of familiarity with and ability to use sports turf and landscape maintenance equipment.
9. High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal duties.
10. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
11. Ability to handle customer/client concerns.
12. Well-organized with good time-management skills.
13. Well-developed interpersonal skills.  Ability to get along well with diverse personalities within a diverse workforce.
14. Safety practices to be used when working around or in vehicle traffic.
15. Prepare purchase orders and maintain purchase order logs.
16. Payroll: verifies hours, vacation time, reviews payroll register for accuracy; distributes paychecks.
17. Assists management in the preparation and oversight of the budget.

1. Orders equipment and supplies. Requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; must be flexible and able to adapt to frequent changes in work priorities.
2. Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of ABM’s safety policies and rules.  Must be willing to report and/or act on safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
3. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such a level as determined by ABM.  Must be available and willing to work on a fulltime schedule and must be available and willing to work as needed and determined by ABM as necessary to meet the business needs.  This position requires working weekends & holidays, working irregular shifts (starting as early as 5:00 am), and attending evening meetings.
