Description
Under the direction of the Pressroom Manager, the Lead Pressman for the Komori, KBA Heidelberg printing press sets up, adjusts and operates the equipment to produce printed material to job specification
Job Duties:
- Arrive at work station at or before start of shift
- Communicate with operators from other shifts
- Follow and execute production schedule
- Review job ticket, specification and requirement and plan work process to ensure customer specification compliance
- Setup and run all jobs that require printing assignments• Pre-Make Ready
- Ensure the job type is understood and the appropriate materials are on-hand e.g. stock, ink, plates coating, color targets etc.
- Verify the job status e.g. re-print, customer ok, new, additionally if the job is the result of a re-print due to a CPAR ascertain the determined root cause to prevent a repeat event
- Make ready and run requirements:
- Install plates, ink fountains, fill fountain solution, prepare coating units (where applicable) e.g. blankets, rollers, viscosity, coating flow and drier settings
- Run waste sets to establish print registration, guides and if print is clean without defect e.g. smashes, holes. roller marks
- Ensure, layout of number up, correct copy and line-up
- Establish color by means of target provided (visual), or densitometer/spectrophotometer prior to running full production,notify manager, director of mfg. or CSR if color is non-compliant
- Upon acceptable and compliant color and print quality run job
- Production (before, during and after)
- Throughout the run monitor job for color, register, side guide, print quality, barcode verification etc.
- Perform press checks/pulls during the run indicating the time and press quantity for retain purposes
- Insert identifiable and accurate load tags into each load(s), indicate any non-conformance by marking the load appropriately or remove the sub-standard material if applicable
- Run job to instructed quantity
- Transport load(s) to the appropriate post print location
- Monitor press supplies ensuring an adequate reserve is on hand, i.e. coating, blankets, fountain solution, filters, rollers, spray powder, chemicals etc.
- Ensure feeder responsibilities are being met
- Return job tickets and bags to the appropriate location
- Ensure the completion of jobs meeting quality and quantity requirements
- Perform all required maintenance to equipment according to departmental procedures and manufacturer's specification
- e.g. cleaning, greasing/oiling, bearings, roller condition, part replacement, guards, safety devices, belts etc.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems, remedy or repair where applicable, and notify manager as needed• Complete special projects as assigned
- Complete, post and maintain all required administrative documentation correctly e.g. records, logs, time sheets etc.
- Comply with company and department SOP's, job description(s) and safety requirements
- Maintain departmental housekeeping standards
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years operating a Conventional Offset/Sheet-Fed press preferably Komori, KBA, Heidelberg
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, job jackets, press imposition, rule-up sheets, die vinyl's etc.
- Must be mechanically inclined
- Must have basic electronic and computer keyboard knowledge
- Physical dexterity:
- Ability to stand and walk 95% of the time
- Extensive lifting, bending, twisting and stretching
- Frequently lift and handle average-weight material and up to 75lbs
- Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Manufacturing environment with noise exposure to varying levels. (Hearing protection provided)
- Ability to direct fellow crew members in the overall operation involved in the job and effectively communicate with other employees of the organization
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent or a combination of education and experience
