Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED
2. Successful passing of the Veterinary Assistant NAVTA exam 
3. CVA Certificate
4. Previous veterinary experience
5. Ability to learn and continually train
6. Patience and respect for patients
7. Excellent communication skills, coordination, and ability to take direction
8. Ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment

Essential Functions:

1. Must be able to ambulate/move 90% of time
2. Must be able to move supplies and patients up to 50 pounds
3. Must be able to use Fear-Free techniques to restrain patients
4. Must have the ability to work in a hospital setting, which includes:
   1. Exposure to potential caustic agents, medical grade radiation, and cleaning products
   2. Exposure to zoonotic diseases and wounds potentially inflicted by patients
   3. Exposure to moderate to loud noises (such as barking)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Complete all treatments as outlined by the attending veterinarian and technician (any and all changes that deviate from original treatment plan or timing must be approved by attending veterinarian) 
2. Assist in gathering basic vital signs, weights, and histories on patients
3. Enter appropriate patient and client documentation into the medical record
4. Restrain patients during examinations, treatments, and procedures. Must be able to utilize Fear Free and Cat Friendly techniques.
5. Administer medications as outlined by the attending veterinarian and technician
6. Observe animal behavior and/or health conditions and report to the attending veterinarian and technician
7. Assist with emergencies and CPR
8. Handle administrative and client service duties as necessary
9. Participate in client education, including information on basic nutrition, husbandry, pet insurance, appointment needs
10. Cleaning/changing patient bedding if needed
11. Cleaning treatment areas and tub sinks
12. Cleaning, vacuuming, and mopping the treatment and exam areas (as needed)
13. Cleaning surgical instruments and running them through the ultrasonic cleaner, autoclave
14. Bringing laundry into the laundry room and making sure any pending loads have been changed over 
15. Mopping and sweeping floors 
16. Prepping treatment and exam areas for exams or procedures
17. Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor and/or management staff
18. Adhering to all Absecon Veterinary Hospital policies and procedures
19. Attending all team and department meetings as assigned
20. Completing any required internal trainings or continuing education (CEs) required by Absecon Veterinary Hospital, or as required by federal, state, and/or local licensing/certification boards
