The Opportunity

As the Internal Strategic Communication Director , you will be responsible for designing, developing and ensuring the execution of Abt’s internal communications strategy.. You will drive the development and implementation of the internal communications strategies across various audiences and channels. You will also be responsible for identifying innovative, creative, and exciting ways to engage our employees ensuring all Abt internal communications align to Abt’s strategy, the culture we are building and enhance the employee experience. To successfully develop strategies for international communications and employee engagement , you will need to understand the key business units, employee personas, and creative channels that engage employees and allow for successful communication cascades. As a critical advisor to Abt’s leadership team, provide communications coaching and strategic advisory services to company leadership, business leaders, colleagues, and other internal clients as they develop their leadership style, and share news, updates and strategies internally.

Core Responsibilities

  • Architect the internal corporate communications strategy and own oversight of ongoing content calendar for internal employees, including ensuring internal communication programs are highly strategic. The strategy and communications operating plan must connect the dots of company strategy, enterprise initiatives, our culture to employees at all levels across the globe
  • Develop compelling and impactful corporate narratives, including writing and editing communications materials for stakeholder communication cascades and write communications for senior executives
  • Consult with the key stakeholders on establishing and enhancing Abt’s culture
  • Develop employee communications strategies and plans for major internal campaigns, activities and events such as enhancing employee engagement and culture, and being a destination workplace
  • Develop and lead change management communications and strategy in partnership with key leaders and assigned change managers
  • Develop high-impact communication strategies that engage and inspire teams, advance Abt’s mission and inclusive mindset, and cultivate global collaboration
  • Provide direction and partner with communications team and other functional teams to deliver well-planned, consistent and timely communications for enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive, integrated employee engagement and internal communications strategy and messages which align our people behind our vision, Employer Value Proposition and company strategy, culture and values, often on behalf of senior leaders.
  • Support executive leadership team with crisis communications and issue management efforts during times of crisis
  • Ensure Abt speaks with a consistent voice across departments and geographies, while also recognizing the importance of stakeholder-specific messaging; this include integrating Abt’s values and Employee Value Proposition pillars, and external Marketing and Communications standards
  • Work across departments and geographies, developing strong relationships at multiple levels within Abt
  • Lead the internal communications technology strategy and oversee key communications platforms and modalities
  • Analyze the success of communications programs and take action to tweak or reinvent them to improve engagement.
  • Build relationships across the company, providing insightful feedback to the management and communications team on communication issues, opportunities and ways to improve engagement on strategic priorities.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s Degree 15 years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree 12 years of relevant experience, or PhD 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of communications leadership at a multinational organization
  • Demonstrated experience with change management, internal communications campaigns,
  • Track record managing through change, bringing global teams together, and encouraging highly collaborative, inclusive and result-driven culture
  • Comfort working alongside senior executives and providing in-the-moment advice
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in leveraging both digital and traditional internal channels to create impactful communications that drive awareness and engagement
  • Flexible writing style with expertise in shifting style and tone for various audiences
  • Proven ability to craft substantive communications from underdeveloped messages, sometimes at a rapid pace
  • Superior editorial and interpersonal skills with a broad range of communications and project management experience
  • Proven track-record leading internal communications and employee engagement, including experience in global organization of similar size and complexity
  • Have a firm understanding of and/or the proven ability and drive to quickly learn about the industry, and the ability to build relationships up, down, and across a diverse internal stakeholder base
  • Proven performer capable of bringing creative approaches to a results-driven organization
  • Leading industry expert on change management and performance communications, with deep corporate experience, and a proven track record leading an enterprise through transformation
  • Employee engagement strategy development, with capabilities to work with senior leaders, cross functionally, and motivate communications alignment
  • Demonstrated understanding of tools, techniques and trends for creativity and innovation in communications delivery; courage to bring forward "big ideas"
  • Able to work independently to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Able to perform with poise under tight deadlines and shifting priorities; can successfully navigate a complex, fast-paced organization
  • Strong writing capabilities, attention to details and ability to multi-task
  • Providing project management skills with ability to get buy-in and support for projects from diverse stakeholders
  • People management experience and developing a team

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $120,000 - $193,000, and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
