Salary Placement and Work Schedule: This is a 12-month position, placed on the E3 Salary Schedule with a pay range of $38,979 to $61,480, depending upon degree and applicable work experience, at the President's discretion. The work week is Monday through Friday, and hours worked will be a minimum of 40 per week.
 
Supervisory Responsibility: None
 
 Proposed Start Date: September 1, 2023

FunctionThe primary function of the Career and Transfer Advisor is to assist and support the functions of the College and Career Planning Center, which is under the Student Services Division. The Career and Transfer Advisor will comply with all policies of Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.

 

Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

1.         Assist students who are planning to transfer to two- and four-year colleges with admission, financial aid, and other issues or processes

2.         Assist students with career assessments and other career exploration activities  
             and résumé writing

3.         Serve as an academic advisor to students who are undecided or majoring in general/pre-liberal arts

4.         Assist students and others in locating and using college and/or career information as needed for research

5.         Provide career planning information and assessments during freshman orientations

6.         Regularly present presentations to various groups and organizations on topics related to transfer, soft skills, résumé writing, etc.

7.         Present workshops and seminars on topics related to college transfer (i.e., STARS Guide requirements, scholarship opportunities, and NACC four-year partnerships.)

8.         Organize recruitment visits and transfer fairs with four-year institution admission representatives

9.         Maintain and update College and Career Planning Center webpages

10.       Assist in maintaining files on program participants for tracking purposes and institutional reports

11.       Assist and advise in the career pathways process

12.       Assist the Dual Enrollment Coordinator with additional advisement of dual
 enrollment students

12.       Regularly engage in professional learning activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas

13.       Use technology effectively for word processing, record-keeping, instructional applications, electronic communication, and information and data management

14.       Serve on College committees as assigned by the President

15.       Have knowledge of and commitment to the philosophy and objectives of Northeast Alabama Community College

16.       Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College

17.       Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or President

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are required
  • Proficient use of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing using such software as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc. is required
  • Effective human relations skills, including professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment to career exploration
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission
  • Ability to compose and prepare accurate reports, records, and correspondence
  • Demonstrated skill in organization
  • Excellent keyboarding skills
  • Understanding of customer service and public relations etiquette
  • Ability to work well with students; college faculty and staff; and the public
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Ability to travel for institutional support assignments and to conduct business when necessary
Minimum Required Education, Training and/or Experience:  
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution required IMPORTANT!!! - Read all of the following information very carefully before you submit an application. Do not submit an application until you have all required application materials uploaded to NEOED. Do not send transcripts or letters of recommendation to the NACC Human Resources or Registrar's Offices. These must be uploaded by the applicant as part of his or her application.

3.A separate transcripts from each College attended (This means all of them, even if the credit shows on another transcript.)
Note: To qualify, the transcript(s) must include your name and the name of the institution and confirm that the degree required for the position was conferred (date received). Make sure to ensure this information is included.
4.Two signed letters of recommendation that confirm experience, dated within one year of the application deadline. One must be from the applicant's current or former college instructor, supervisor, or employer. Each must have an actual signature or electronic signature. Typed signatures and typed cursive fonts are NOT accepted. 

APPLICATION AND INTERVIEW PROCESS:
All applications must be submitted through the NEOED system. Click on the green "Apply" button at the top of this announcement to create or access your NEOED account. All application materials must be uploaded by the applicant to his or her account, including transcripts, resumes, letters of recommendation, etc., according to what is listed in the application requirements section by the application deadline. Do not submit an application until you have all required application materials uploaded. A scanner and computer are available on campus for applicants who need to upload documents to the online application system. This service is free of charge and is available during normal operating hours of the TLC and Library. Applications for the position will be reviewed to determine (1) if they are complete and (2) if the applicant meets the minimum qualifications required of the position. Interviews are then scheduled at the President’s discretion and will be conducted via a web-interface such as Zoom, Skype, or Microsoft Teams. Applicants will be required to participate in an interview at their own expense. Official transcripts will be required of the finalist chosen for employment by the President.
   
 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
 Criminal Background Checks - In accordance with Alabama Community College System policy and procedures, the applicant chosen for employment will be required to sign a consent form for a criminal background check. Employment will be contingent upon the receipt of a clearance notification from the criminal background check.

Verification of Work Experience – As a condition of the employment offer, the applicant chosen to fill the position will be required to submit verification from previous and current employers to confirm the work experience stated in the application. The verification form, provided by the College to the applicant, must include the applicant’s beginning and ending dates of employment and job title; confirm if the employment was full time or part-time; and outline job duties. This information will be used to determine salary schedule placement and is required within fifteen (15) working days of acceptance of an employment offer.
