Genome Editing Scientist
Qualifications
- Molecular Biology or Cell Biology Major Highly preferred
- Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience or in biology, cell-biology, molecular biology, genetics, bioengineering, or a related discipline is required with a Master’s degree
- Two (2) years of relevant post-degree work experience in biology, cell-biology, molecular biology, genetics, bioengineering, or a related discipline is required with a Ph.D
- Expertise and hands-on experience with primary mammalian cell culture and cell biology
- The ideal candidate will have experience with genome editing technologies, espcially Prime Editing; knowledge of gene editing techniques including CRISPR-Cas9, Prime Editing, AAV biology, and/or genome editor delivery.
- Hands-on experience or working knowledge of qPCR techniques
- Experience in Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells(hiPSC), or organoids preferred
- Comfortable working in a dynamic research and early-discovery environment, as well as collaborating with peers on multiple projects at once
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to simplify complex biological concepts to peers
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills
- Excellent trouble shooting, capability, attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Responsibilities
- Optimizing pre-clinical gene editing strategies for treating genetic muscular disease, which is Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy(LGMD) Type 2B
- Developing strong pre-clinical data to support advancing potentially curative, autologous cell therapy approaches to treating LGMD2B
- Protein engineering of genome editors with improved activity, targeting range, or specificities
- The bench Scientist will also be responsible for contributing intellectually and hands-on to other research, early-discovery activities, and core capabilities at ACGENE Lab
- Culture and edit hiPSCs and characterize the levels of editing by flow cytometry, and qPCR
- Develop multicolor or imaging-based flow cytometry assays, western blot, and/or molecular assays to assess the effects of editing on cell biology and fitness
- Design and optimize Prime Editor (Gene Editor)
- Plasmids Prep. and Verification
- Produce, purify, and characterize AAV vectors
- Analyze data and present results in cross-functional team meetings
- Establish and contribute positivity to the broader vision of company culture
- Design and evaluate gene editing constructs in stem cells
- Establish and perform molecular assays to determine on target gene editing efficacy
