What are the responsibilities and job description for the HIV Tester position at ACR Health?

ACR Health is a not-for-profit, community-based organization providing a range of support services to individuals with chronic diseases, including HIV/AIDS, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, asthma, substance use disorders, and serious mental illnesses, and targeted prevention and sexual health services to individuals, from youth through adulthood with the goal of positive health outcomes. We are currently hiring for a HIV Tester in our Utica office.

HIV Tester Responsibilities:

  • Incorporate best practices regarding confidentiality into all job duties and communications in accordance with Article 27-F and HIPAA, ACR Health policies and procedures and other applicable regulations. Protect agency data in accordance with confidentiality procedures and protocols. Observe and abide by the HIV Confidentiality Law and HIPAA.
  • Direct provision of HIV screening.
  • Conduct enhanced outreach in the community targeting high-risk sub-populations of individuals to promote and facilitate access to HIV counseling and testing services, individual and group level HIV/STD/HCV education and risk reduction counseling, and other HIV prevention interventions and supportive services.
  • One-on-one assessments and risk-reduction counseling (Pre/Post HIV Test Counseling).
  • Provide immediate referrals to supportive services and medical care for individuals who test HIV .
  • Maintain up-to-date list of appropriate referrals with which ACR Health has linkage agreements.
  • Educate individuals about safer sex practices and other risk reduction topics as needed during HIV testing encounters.
  • Participate in community outreach to recruit clients for HIV testing services.
  • Integrate condom promotion, harm reduction education, and distribution into HIV testing encounters.
  • Refer clients to other prevention related and supportive services.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping, including follow-up on referrals.
  • Complete required reports and data entry in accordance with department and funder policies and guidelines.
  • Maintains outreach van and is responsible for cleaning/upkeep.
  • Participate in appropriate and applicable training/professional development opportunities for a minimum of 24 hours of curriculum-based training annually.
  • Continue to develop expanding knowledge of the unique challenges faced by women of color at risk for HIV/AIDS/STIs.
  • Prepare all required reports and supporting data which relate to specific prevention department activities and as assigned by the Director of Prevention. Complete accurate monthly, quarterly and/or annual report(s) within agency and departmental guidelines.
  • Timely and accurate AIRS data entry.
  • Perform other work as assigned by the Director of Prevention, Deputy Executive Director and/or Executive Director.

*All interventions must be delivered within the standards outlined by the funders and agency policy and procedures.

HIV Tester Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in health & human services, or related field; OR 4 years’ experience working in non-profit social service agency providing direct services to diverse populations (e.g., persons of color, MSM, substance users, mentally ill, etc.) OR an equal combination of education/experience.
  • Basic knowledge about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis, and experience working with young gay men/YMSM, is helpful but not required.
  • Automobile and valid NYS driver’s license required.
  • Sensitivity to AIDS, chronic illness, LGTBQ issues and a strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of ACR health are essential.
