Description:
Working as a QA Technician inside and out of laboratory to conduct QA tests across the plants product line. QA Technicians take on several responsibilities in and outside of the laboratory which are listed below. Positions can vary in level of responsibility and candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
Primary Responsibilities:
1 – Ensures both food safety and quality of the products and processes on a regular basis
• Performs physical inspection and analytical testing for food safety and food quality of the products and processes and ensures to meet the set standards. Inspections and tests include, but not limited to, color, pH, seal integrity, temperature, date code, X-ray monitoring, weight checks, accuracy of labels, allergen, cleanliness etc.
• Documents all food safety and quality checks as required
• Ensures all stakeholders follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), good housekeeping, and company policies and procedures
• Performs hold and release of the products after thorough review and assessment for food safety and quality. Follows hold and release procedures. Provide feedback and guidance for correction actions when non-conformance issues are found
• Performs pre-operation inspection of the line equipment and processing environment at the start of shift or during line changeover. Conducts environment testing, such as ATP and allergen tests.
• Collects retain samples from the production line and performs product evaluation at the end of product shelf life
• Performs proper calibration of laboratory equipment by set frequency and recordkeeping.
• Take appropriate actions to correct deviations or notify FSQ manager
2 – Acts as key monitor for reinforcing GMPs throughout plant and warehouse facilities
• Performs direct GMP observations of the facility and processing conditions throughout the productions, addresses any discrepancies with appropriated department, and follows up for corrective actions
• Reinforces GMPs during the operation hours
• Leads GMP by example
• Performs GMP inspections of areas within the facility as assigned and communicates the finding and action taken to address the GMP findings
3 – Reinforces policies, procedures, and controls to ensure meeting FDA, USDA, third-party audit requirements, and internal standards.
• Actively supports in the preparation of all 3rd party audits such as FDA, USDA, Organic, SQF or other schemes as well as customers’ audits
• Follows the documented protocols
• Audits the food safety and quality records documented by operators
4 – Seeks ways to make improvements to internal processes, documentation, and knowledge transfer
• Maintain laboratory and work areas organized.
• Identifies opportunities to improve current methods and processes and makes recommendations to FSQ Manager • Demonstrates adaptability by reacting appropriately to unexpected changes in situations • Seeks to develop technical knowledge through learning from peers and FSQ Manger Consistently looks for ways to improve oneself through growth and development opportunities
5 – Performs other duties as assigned
• Acts as backup for FSQ lead and any other FSQ team members in absence
• Assists in new hire and refresher trainings for food safety- and quality-related topics
• Assists in mock-recalls and mock-product withdrawal sessions.
• Assists the FSQ Department in continuous improvement efforts and follow up on corrective action implementation.
• Keeps FSQ Manager informed about problems and opportunities for improvement.
• Assists with special in-plant or lab projects as directed.
Physical Requirements
• Frequently requires standing, lifting, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, smelling, listening, speaking, and seeing to perform the essential job duties.
• Work conditions vary, working time will vary based upon work / project needs, and flexibility is critical. Temperatures range from 5 to 90 F degrees in processing departments.
• Exposure to potentially dangerous machinery and equipment are present in the plant. Potential electrical, mechanical, and chemical, hazards are also present. The noise level is high and constant. Floors are damp and slick.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. to stand for long periods of time
• Close visual acuity to view a computer terminal, analyze reports, manage data and detail

Responsibilities
Implement Plant Sanitation programs as directed by the Quality Assurance Management Evaluate trends from test results and develop plans to correct deficiencies and communicate these plans to employees, and management
Implement quality control processes/testing to meet the expectations of Safeway quality standards and ensure that the product(s) are within specification
Time Management Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for sampling, testing, plating, reading, and recording product test results
Ensure that daily records are kept and maintained
Data Entry and tracking Following QC Hold Procedures for out of specification products Must possess the ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's)
Will assist in the discipline to maintain a 5-S rating of an

Equipment calibration and troubleshooting Perform other duties as assigned
Participate in driving continuous improvement
Must meet with supervisor on a daily basis covering on any issues associated with production
