What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Specimen Processor position at Actalent?
Description:
The specimen processor in this group would work to support the main lab. As a processor, main responsibilities include sorting of specimens, order entry of patient requisitions, labeling of specimens and packaging for transport to be sent to the main lab.
This team is actively involved in pre-analytical and post-analytical processes of testing but are not directly involved in testing. This is a great role to get into to if someone is looking to grow their lab career
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Open specimens and pour off secondary containers to prepare for analysis and testing
- Verify all samples arrived (manually or through data system for larger shipments), inspect for any damage, remove and dispose of packaging, and move samples down the line for entry
- Operate out of multiple computer software systems and will be required to remember which software's apply to different samples
- Verify name on samples match requisitions
- Handle mostly urine samples, blood, serum, plasma, body fluid and unknown substances.
- After entry into systems, create labels and label samples
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Will accept candidates from a variety of backgrounds as long as you are willing to learn and have experience multitasking. There is a preference towards a bachelors degree in science but are also open to other backgrounds- banking, serving, and other customer service jobs provide a solid set of skills for this role. This preference towards a bachelors degree is due to being able to quickly promote into other internal labs (analytical chemistry, clinical lab, microbiology).
Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
• High School Diploma
• Desire to move up within the lab
• Intermediate computer, typing and 10 key skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Able to work in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turnaround times
Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday
