Description:
- The Microbiology Supervisor is a results orientated leader that produces high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time in our ISO Accredited Food Microbiology laboratory
- The working Microbiology Supervisor organizes and directs staff to maintain a good working environment and ensures continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency
- Maximizes human, equipment and financial resources and ensures that they are used appropriately
- The Supervisor holds competency to perform sample preparation and sample set up for both quantitative and qualitative microbiology workflows
- This position has full knowledge to performing food microbiological procedures to include indicator organisms and rapid PCR assays
- Suggests new processes & procedures that will increase the companies market share, profile and profitability
- Samples in a food microbiology laboratory might include food ingredients, ready to eat foods, pet food, agricultural products such as grains and legumes
- Microbiological analysts to include indicator organisms such as Aerobic Colony Count, Coliforms, E.coli, Staphylococcus, Yeast and Mold
- Leads and develops staff – including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided
- Co-ordinates requests or recommends resource planning e.g. need for additional staff or equipment within the food microbiology laboratory
- Ensures methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory and ISO guidelines
- Acts as microbiology technical resource for Manager, Client Services, Sales and staff
- Monitors laboratory supplies and equipment
- Supports and complies with all company policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
- Math skills to understand dilution factors when plating and reading
- May involve long periods of standing
- Requires flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
