Description:
The Laboratory Technician will assist in manual and automated laboratory processing of biological materials, including aliquoting and sample preparation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepares aliquots of samples and other laboratory procedures
• Communicates with supervisor about any sample discrepancies found, and aids in resolving them.
• Receives, processes, and stores biological specimens using a variety of database applications.
Basic Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty.
• Requires knowledge of handling of infectious substances.
• Requires knowledge of good aseptic technique.
• Requires flexibility to handle multiple tasks at one time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
1st shift 9am-5:30pm Tuesday-Saturday (may be required to work after-hours and weekends as needed). Would like to have a rotating start time from 9am-12pm to eliminate overtime and account for when fed ex brings samples later in the day which tends to happen during the winter.
*For remainder of 2023 will be M-F. Starting January 22nd 2024 will move to Tues-Sat shift* Some overtime is to be expected, need someone with a flexible schedule.
Education/ Experience:
• BS in a Biological Science.
• Requires 6 months-1 yr of previous laboratory work experience.
• Must have and be able to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Prefers experience with temperature sensitive materials.
• Prefers knowledge of LIMS and Good Laboratory Practices. (Will train on this)
• Prefers experience working with human blood and blood products.
*Person Must be a non smoker- it will contaminate the samples, if they are a smoker of any kind.*
