Actalent is seeking a Traveling Engineering/Soil Technician!
Description:
- This role will assist with sample collection of diverse materials including; soil, sediment, water, and air for environmental tests; compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data related to landfill & environmental remediation construction projects
- Provide neat, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all field-related activities to management level project personally
- Provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private practice and public sector client base.
- Fieldwork such as soil, water, & groundwater sampling, drilling & contractor oversite, aquifer testing, geophysical investigations & remediation system O&M;
- Monitor activities on job sites to assure compliance w relevant contract documents (technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.)
- Prepare daily & weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports
- The role requires the ability to comprehend construction plans and specifications and a willingness to perform extensive fieldwork and travel for extensive periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong willingness to work outdoors with interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field.
Additional Information
- Oversee contractor activities and performance on a wide variety of project including remediation projects, landfill construction, and industrial process projects;
- Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
- Monitor activities on job sites to assure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g. technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans etc.);
- Provide CQA monitoring on several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites;
- Perform multi-media sampling in support of investigations, monitoring programs, and other data collection centric projects;
- Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports;
- Assure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;
- Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
- Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
- Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company's Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures; and
- Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.
- This position requires OSHA health & safety, first aid, CPR training & medical monitoring
Work Environment
- Fieldwork - 100% Travel (company truck provided)
- Long-term travel position (home trips every 3-4 weeks, long weekend)
- Per diem - 7 days a week
- On the road, 100% of the time... typical schedule is Monday - Friday/ Saturday when needed
- Normal hours 7 am - 5 or 6 pm
- Lodging and per diem still paid for on rain days / off days
- Rain days - unpaid days / Most everyone averages 45 - 60 hrs a week /
- Client dictates schedule
