Description:
Responsibilities:
- Architect, write, create or author requirement
- Develop high-level system requirements, based upon the end user needs and/or stated requirements
- Analyze and decompose systems-level requirements and allocate requirements and design margin across sub-system elements
- Advocate for design to cost, design for test, and design for manufacture approaches throughout the organization for effective productization of commercial space systems
- Develop and ensure proper documentation of technical and interface requirements
- Develop and ensure proper documentation of high-level system and subsystem design
- Develop verification and test plans
- Understand and assess design issues, determine appropriate resolutions, and work with the team to address
- Troubleshoot system behavior anomalies, determine root cause, and the appropriate technical resolution.
- Review, analyze, and interpret telemetry from deployed system with context and understanding of the system development life cycle
Day to Day:
- Currently on phase B which wraps up in about 12-16 months
- Work with software, electronics, mechanical, product assurance to figure out different concepts to meet that need
- Full product development cycle from initial concept, to test, to manufacturing and release to customer
- Requirement management, writing a requirement for front end engineering (R&D Phase)
- Decompose top level requirements into a specification
- Planning out verification and validation, every time a requirement is written, need to prove compliance to that requirement through testing or analysis
- Testing experience is an asset but will need to utilize those skills 16 months from now
- Primarily involved with other subject matters in the field, understand their designs and making sure they are working in guidelines with the requirements from systems engineers
- Work with program managers to negotiate with open requirement
- May be involved with subcontractors/suppliers but limited at the moment. Mostly internal
- Working directly with Canadian Space Agency
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in systems engineer with at least 2 years of writing requirements for complex products (aerospace, space, automotive, med device, rail cars)
- Complex systems (from multidisciplinary project involving Software, Mechanical and Electrical)
- Translating from a customer spec into an engineering requirement. Then go into lower tier sub system requirements where they define what the product must do based on the concept of operations
- Multidisciplinary experience that involved software, controls, electrical/hardware and mechanical
- Must have previously worked with software, electronics, mechanical, product assurance groups to figure out different concepts to meet that need which is called systems architecting
- Good communication skills required to communicate with internal teams and customers in order to take a lead on a project or subsystem (work package)... I.e. take ownership and thrive
- Looking for people who have been involved in full product development cycle from initial concept
Assets:
- Knowledge of the MSS system and its operation, and/or knowledge of robotic systems, flight verification and validation, and operations analysis would be an asset.
- Familiarity with mission-critical software, Matlab/Simulink, and computer-aided design tools would also be a benefit.
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills are essential to this position.
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent experience
- Someone who has proven experience working as a Systems Engineer without Masters Degree
- Need to have a passion about space
