Description:
Our client is seeking an Environmental or Engineering Technician to join our team in Boca Raton, Florida (would consider based in Palm Beach County-Broward County). The role is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in the environmental construction and consulting fields. You will compile construction quality assurance (CQA) monitoring data; perform a variety of multi-media sampling activities; oversee environmental and remediation construction projects; and provide additional field and office support to geologists and engineers for a diverse private and public-sector client base. You will work on your own or as a part of a larger field support team on site- specific project tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
- Monitor contractor activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g., technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans ).
- Provide CQA observation and monitoring of several types of construction and/or environmental activities on enviro-civil construction sites;
- Perform multi-media sampling in support of investigations, monitoring programs, and other data collection centric projects.
- Prepare daily and weekly field reports, construction schedules & progress reports;
- Assure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;
- Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
- Assist in the preparation of final data packages, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices.
- Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company's Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures; and
- Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.
Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.
- CQA for landfill cell construction (earthwork, foundation, geosynthetics liner)
- CQA for well installations for a landfill gas system
- Subsurface injection for groundwater remediation
- Source removal/Excavation of contaminates
- Remediation of several different types of contaminated sites
- Landfill conversions
- Dam, Dykes and Levee
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED). (required)
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects. (preferred)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)
- Strong mathematical experience with the ability to perform calculations in basic geometry and use of algebra. (required)
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
- Technical experience in civil construction services, geotechnical, environmental, or related engineering disciplines. (preferred)
- Experience ensuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities. (preferred)
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (preferred)
- Experience with the operation of industry typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited to laptop and handheld computers, Troxler moisture /density gauges, scales, landfill gas meters, and other monitoring devices. (preferred)
- Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. (preferred)
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering. (required)
- Ability to perform field work and travel up to 90% (required)
Report writing- daily field document in word. Record the chronology of the day and upload some pictures.

Work Environment:
- Work outdoors, perform extensive fieldwork, and travel for extensive periods of time, including overnights, weekends, and holidays is required.
- Fieldwork: Up to 90%
- Overnight travel: Up to 90%
- Must be located in Palm Beach County-Broward County in order to stay close to management.
- Must be able to travel at 4-6 weeks at a time.
- Minimum 8-10 hours/day, some Saturdays. 50-60 hours/week.
- Projects- landfill gas system and control wells installation oversite. They have a few weeks of local work, before they would have to travel.
- Typically expense mileage for travel
- Company Car- may be provided if needed. Must be returned after end of day.
