ASSISTANT CITY ENGINEER
ANNUAL SALARY RANGE
$69,555 - $112,216
Position Summary: Plan, program, designs and delivers construction of City public works infrastructures and facilities. Coordinates various tasks required for compliance with federal and state regulations subject to oversight of a licensed engineer. Supervises and directs engineering and surveying activities under the guidance of the City Engineer for projects assigned by the City Engineer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates the activities of the Engineering Department. Reviews and checks for accuracy of designs. Recommends priority of construction projects to the City Engineer.
Serves as design project manager and construction project manager of various public works projects as assigned by the City Engineer.
Completes tasks necessary to ensure the City’s compliance with federal and state regulatory permitting agencies.
Reviews subdivision, commercial and other development plans for compliance with City regulations. Including the City’s Floodplain Management regulations, under the guidance of the City Engineer.
Represents the City at various professional and governmental meetings and conferences, environmental regulators and facilities planning.
Performs various other tasks and assignments as direct by the City Engineer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering.
Knowledge of surveying practices is a plus.
Skill in developing PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets.
Skill in conducting public presentations.
Ability to read and accurately interpret plans and technical specifications.
Ability to write technical specifications and correspondence with various entities.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public, staff and other customers.
Ability to instruct, supervise, direct and teach.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor of Science of Civil Engineering or a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree.
Qualifications for registration as an Engineer Intern with the State of Florida.
Three (3) years experience related to engineering work.
Certificates and Licenses:
Valid Florida driver's license.
Certification as an Engineer Intern (EI) with the State of Florida.
Certified Floodplain Manager (CRM) within 12 months of hire.
