CHIEF BUILDING INSPECTOR
SALARY RANGE: $71,947.20-$115,107.20

ICC/State certified as a Building Inspections.
ICC/State certified in Plans Review.
Position Summary: Works in conjunction with the Building Official to carry out the day-to-day operations of the Building Department to enforce the applicable codes to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare to citizens of our City. Oversees, supervises, and mentors, inspectors and plans examiners, identifies discrepancies/conflicts in various code applications, collects and inputs data for monthly and annual reports, meets with owners, contractors, engineers, etc., performs field inspections as necessary, evaluates personnel performance, plans and permits intake, inspections performed, participates in various committees, attends training classes, maintains continued education credits for certifications, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.
Oversees day to day operations of inspectors and plans examiners. Supervises inspection personnel and evaluates performance.
Reviews plans for permitting.
Prepares plans for permitting.
Prepares monthly reports.
Provides technical advice to personnel and contractors.
Inputs and retrieves data.
Researches code. Clarifies conflicts and violations.
Maintains licensure credits.
Performs inspections. Condemns unsafe structures.
Attends commission meetings.
Meets with contractors and engineers.

Ability to organize and present technical reports.
Ability to interpret codes.
Ability to supervise.
Ability to review, inspect and enforce codes.
Ability to provide in-house training to technical staff.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blue prints.
Skill in oral and written communications.
Skill in tactfully resolving problems with staff and in field.
Skill in code interpretations.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships.
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED. Ten years of experience in field.
Certificates and Licenses:
