Ada Developers Academy is a non-profit, tuition-free coding school for women and gender-expansive adults. We focus on serving Black, Latine, Indigenous, and Pacific Islander communities, low-income people, and members of the LGBTQIA community. Our program consists of two highly immersive parts: six months of focused instruction, and five months of internship at partner companies, where students refine their skills working on real-world code.


About This Position

We are looking for an Associate Software Development Instructor to help prepare students for software development careers by providing hands-on instruction during the classroom portion of our program. As a member of our Education team, you will also be responsible for working closely with the Seattle instructional team to deliver curriculum to students, support interactive lessons, mentoring and coaching students, and building a supportive, collaborative learning environment. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The salary range for this position is $90,000- $95,000.

Core Responsibilities

Student Instruction

  • Support Instructors in leading interactive lectures and programming exercises for approximately six hours per day at our campus in Seattle; may lead up to 1 classroom session per week or support non-core curriculum as well;
  • Provide detailed, actionable, and constructive feedback to students via written and 1:1 feedback for up to 10 students;
  • Assist in creating and grading lesson plans, assignments, and projects;
  • Tutor students as needed;
  • Collaborate with the classroom team to provide consistent, high-quality education to Ada students every day;
  • Additional duties as assigned

Classroom Instruction Development

  • Work with the broader Education team to continuously develop student coursework, homework, and project materials;
  • Assist with the Admissions process (such as conducting technical interviews as assigned);
  • Maintain and contribute to our open source curriculum in your area(s) of focus (JavaScript, React, Python, Flask, HTML/CSS, Computer Science fundamentals, etc.);
  • Design and manage processes for effective student learning (both in-person and digitally);
  • Create materials that allow us to collaborate with and communicate to students in an empathetic and inclusive manner


Essential Qualifications

  • 2  years of professional experience as a Software Developer required
  • Professional or volunteer teaching experience in an educational institution or program
  • Recent hands-on experience with Python, Flask, JavaScript, and/or React
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven history of cultivating effective and authentic relationships with others
  • Demonstrated embodiment of Ada’s values in a professional environment
